An ice free Arctic would NOT have devastating consequences.
Biological markers clearly show that for the first several thousand years of the Holocene the Arctic had winter perennial ice only. No disaster happened, the world and its animals are still here.
In fact , the Neoglaciation period from about 3500 years ago would have caused many more problems than any slight turn back to the more abundant biosphere of the earlier part of the current interglacial.
Arctic sea ice is anomalously HIGH compared to the last 10,000 years.
We are only just a bit above the COLDEST period in the last 10,000 years. !

Tracking 2006 is no guide to minima though, it could be higher than 2006 or lower.

And put in 2006, 2008 and 2015 you can see currently 2015 is lower than 2008, so I could spin it as 2015 is already lower than 2008, which had a lot lower minima than 2006. That’s all it would be though, spin. 2010 is also pretty close, but you don’t mention that either.
