After several La Nina years in 1977, Governor Jerry Brown warned of drought disaster in California.

California was having a drought very similar to the current drought.

National Geographic blamed the California drought and cold, snowy weather in the East on global cooling.

An El Nino set in the following winter, and a year later California was very wet.

The current El Nino is forecast to start producing heavy rain in Northern California in about a week.

Everything is exactly the same as 1977, including the governor. The only difference is that this time they are blaming it on “global warming” instead of “global cooling”

  1. It’s all in the family, but not the same governor. Edmund Brown, Jerry’s father, was governor in 1977. But the main point holds.

    • No, it was the same Jerry Brown who is governor now.

I take it you’re not a history professor.

The spelling of the name in comment above is wrong. Should say “Disillusioned”.

The spelling of my comment in the following comment is correct.
          It should say “huh?”

          Menicholas,

LOL. I had cleared my cookies and logging back in I typed the user name too fast and misspelled it, so it was not the name connected with the email address with my WordPress account. My guess is you cannot see that comment because it is awaiting moderation, and so it is no wonder your correctly-spelled comment is, “huh?” So sorry. 😀

(In the original comment that you probably cannot see, it was a reply to streetwiseprof, which said, “I take it you’re not a history professor.” )
          🙂

        • I was chuckling repeatedly while waiting for your follow up. I suspected a “hidden” comment.

          You suspected correctly Sir. 😉

        • Sir, my “assumption” was based on Occam’s principle of fewest assumptions :D:

When something looks out of context the most elegant explanation says it is out of context. 🙂

Formal ontology scholars should advise how many assumptions were actually applied here: Was it one or zero?

          I could argue either side.

Occam’s Razor isn’t welcome here. This is a climate science website.

The more applicable principal in climate science is the one forwarded by a Mr. Rube Goldberg.

Now ya done gone and not only switched terms in mid-stream, but put quotes around it also. …and just plain made a mess of everthang. I suppose next you’ll be putting quotes around … “supposition.” 😉

(Ted, you may be on to something.)

  2. I lived out there in ’77. They told us “If it’s yellow let it mellow, if it’s brown flush it down.”

Fall of ’77 it rained non-stop for 3 weeks and filled all the reservoirs to overflowing.

    • gregole says:

I lived back there too andI remember the rains and flooding well along with the “immanent Ice-Age” scare along with the pesticide scare, the world-wide famine scare, the man-made particulate pollution blotting out the sun scare. Deforestation. Desertification.

None of it happened. The opposite happened. It warmed up. Food production has increased world-wide. In free-countries, pollution has been drastically reduced.

Now it’s man-made global warming and “carbon” pollution. And yes, I was waiting for the El Nino to return and bring back the rains to California. It has even been sprinkling here in Arizona the last couple of days.

Nothing out of the ordinary is happening to the climate of California. What we see though is just the same old hucksters, liars, charlatans, and phony politicians at their age-old craft. I am amazed at people’s gullibility.
