I have never seen so much hype about a non event in all my life (68 years).
The Paris boondoggle is the obvious reason.
Have you seen the costs for it, 40,000 delegates and 183 million Euros and that is without travel costs.
There are some people whom it was not a non event! Some people were killed in Guatemala and its neighbors – before the depression grew as a major storm.
However, I feel that some were quite disappointed when they had the worst storm of the history at hand, and what happened was just a piff.
Could it be they measured the depression (<900 mb) wrong? One sonde falling in and being broken, given off-calibrated results?
I am not certain of the 1959 storm track, but this one hit the mountains. Still, the eye wall collapsed very far off shore.
The maps show both storm tracks very close. Does anyone know how far apart the storm tracks were at land-fall.
