Shortest Arctic Melt Season On Record?

The Arctic has reached the date of the normal end to the melt season. The ice is growing rapidly, extent is the same as last year, about 30% higher than four years ago, and the melt season may have been the shortest on record.

  2. Steve, have you tried Greenshot yet? With as much clipping as you do, you might really like it… I think it is the best clipper I’ve ever used. I configured mine to use F6 to activate it (a leftover from a previous clipper), and I have it save a copy of the clip to the clipboard, and open it. You can set it to save it in a certain place, send it to places like box, google drive, etc (probably wordpress too?). I save as .png since it is lossless compression, which is nice for text too. Nice magnifier too.

Very configurable… Which might slow you down at first while you set it to behave like you want, but after that, you’ll fly.

The above map shows no sea-ice at Barrow, but the webcam shows otherwise.

This is not thin, new ice. Where did it come from, when none is shown on the maps? (We need to be careful of what maps we trust.)

I’d say it is because it doesn’t meet the minimum % level to be counted. 15% ice or 10% ice does not mean no ice.
