Peter Hannam – Australia’s Top Fake Climate News Journalist

Peter Hannam recently wrote one of the worst fake climate news articles ever for the Canberra Times about the Arctic, and is now doing a repeat for SMH at both poles. His first major mistake is claiming low November Arctic sea ice extent is causing sunlight to be absorbed in the Arctic Ocean.

‘Remarkable year’: What’s behind the record low sea ice in Antarctica

If Peter actually knew anything about the earth, he would know that the sun doesn’t shine in the Arctic in November – and open water in the Arctic Ocean in November allows heat to escape to the much colder air.

But it gets worse. Peter also appears to be trying to fool his readers into believing a hole in Antarctic sea ice may also be due to global warming. Note the not very subtle placement of the words “clarion call of global warming” next to the Antarctic sea ice graph above. Nothing in his article supports that idea, but his intent to lead the reader towards that conclusion is clear.

Here is the latest satellite map of Antarctic sea ice, showing a large hole in the ice.

The same hole in the ice appeared from 1974-1976 at the peak of the ice age scare.

At that time, the Canberra Times was pimping global cooling and the ice age scare.

Antarctic sea ice extent has nothing to do with either fake global cooling scares or fake global warming scares. The ice behaves the same during both. But Peter Hannam gets readers by writing fake climate news articles for the Australian press.

Hannam knows the sheeple won’t research his claims, which is why he can get away with using words that have less than 3 syllables, such as:

    stalled
    ice
    insane
    heat
    warming

Much like Dummocrat campaigns that use “Yes We Can” (whatever that means), “Change We Can”, “Hope” and “Forward”.

I know Repub’s ain’t much better but I might as well spray some bullets while I’m doing a drive-by.

I’m worried about how the low Arctic Ice will be unable to reflect the sunshine.
(Given that there is no sunshine in the Arctic from December to January)
Incidentally, southern Australia has been having an unusually cool damp spring/early summer…(hence the shortage of ripe fruit in the supermarkets here!)

  3. RAH says:

Nautical twilight at the N. Pole ended October 25th and Astronomic twilight ended November 13th. The Winter solstice will be on December 21st this year. The N. Pole will be in perpetual darkness until January 29th when Astronomical twilight returns.

I’m convinced that some liberal think tank invented
“Fake News” and successfully pushed it out to their useful idiots. Now the Googles and Facebooks of the world feel emboldened to become the Ministry of Truth.

    Very dangerous.

  5. Andy Watson says:

It has to be said, and ignoring external sources jumping on the bandwagon, the Antarctic has been far more interesting this year on extent than the Arctic due to the very early maxima, which was low, and continuing low values since.

Which is in stark contrast to recent years where the winter increase has been above the norm but the summer decrease about average giving an upward trend compared to the Arctic. So what has happened?

    Thoughts?

    Andy

    • AndyG55 says:

      “So what has happened?

Remnants of the El Nino and weather patterns have switched the cold to over northern Russia.

Do try to keep up with what is actually happening. !!

Well it ain’t anywhere near 2012 or 2013 currently to be honest, but Tony goes a bit quiet when no good news for the masses.

  7. John F Hultquist says:

Both teachers and writers (Peter Hannam ?) spend a lot more time studying teaching or writing than they spend studying the subject matter about that they are to teach or write.
As we know not what Peter H. studied, we can only infer he does not know much about the dynamic Earth. So, Peter: It’s like a big round spinning top. It tilts, wobbles, and goes round-&-round the Sun.
When you have mastered this bit, come back for lesson #2.

  8. AndyOz says:

I keep looking for the Canberra Times news article in September 2014 when Antarctic sea ice extent hit a satellite era record high. I just can’t seem to find it.
Perhaps Peter might reprint it for us.

  9. dp says:

Does this moron still have a job? How does such an uninformed person get this kind of claptrap into publication?
