Peter Hannam recently wrote one of the worst fake climate news articles ever for the Canberra Times about the Arctic, and is now doing a repeat for SMH at both poles. His first major mistake is claiming low November Arctic sea ice extent is causing sunlight to be absorbed in the Arctic Ocean.
‘Remarkable year’: What’s behind the record low sea ice in Antarctica
If Peter actually knew anything about the earth, he would know that the sun doesn’t shine in the Arctic in November – and open water in the Arctic Ocean in November allows heat to escape to the much colder air.
But it gets worse. Peter also appears to be trying to fool his readers into believing a hole in Antarctic sea ice may also be due to global warming. Note the not very subtle placement of the words “clarion call of global warming” next to the Antarctic sea ice graph above. Nothing in his article supports that idea, but his intent to lead the reader towards that conclusion is clear.
Here is the latest satellite map of Antarctic sea ice, showing a large hole in the ice.
The same hole in the ice appeared from 1974-1976 at the peak of the ice age scare.
Nimbus’ 40th Anniversary : Feature Articles
In January of 1976, Antarctic sea ice almost completely disappeared.
National Geographic : 1976 Nov, Page 578
At that time, the Canberra Times was pimping global cooling and the ice age scare.
22 Nov 1974 – SCIENCE DOCUMENTARY New ice age ‘could be in our lifetime’
Antarctic sea ice extent has nothing to do with either fake global cooling scares or fake global warming scares. The ice behaves the same during both. But Peter Hannam gets readers by writing fake climate news articles for the Australian press.
Hannam knows the sheeple won’t research his claims, which is why he can get away with using words that have less than 3 syllables, such as:
stalled
ice
insane
heat
warming
Much like Dummocrat campaigns that use “Yes We Can” (whatever that means), “Change We Can”, “Hope” and “Forward”.
I know Repub’s ain’t much better but I might as well spray some bullets while I’m doing a drive-by.
Don’t forget:
“Resist we much.”
I’m worried about how the low Arctic Ice will be unable to reflect the sunshine.
(Given that there is no sunshine in the Arctic from December to January)
Incidentally, southern Australia has been having an unusually cool damp spring/early summer…(hence the shortage of ripe fruit in the supermarkets here!)
Charles you’ve beaten me to it. My point is very similar to yours, namely the main reason there’s ice at the poles (whether sea or land) is there’s so little sunlight that temperatures are low enough to allow ice to form in the first place. Therefore how much influence can ‘lack of albedo’ really bring to bear? Sweet FA in the grand scheme of things.
The greatest lack of albedo on this planet is in the brains of the warmists. Nothing penetrates that dark space between their ears as they blather on about weather as if it is climate.
Vacuum is a perfect insulator.
I think Peter Hannam has lost his title to Charles Firth

Got the lot – even Santa.
As on of The Chaser comedy group, that article is probably one of the best pieces of work that Charles Firth has ever produced – just not in the way he probably intended.
It just shows that a degree in Social Science means nothing in terms of physical science.
Nautical twilight at the N. Pole ended October 25th and Astronomic twilight ended November 13th. The Winter solstice will be on December 21st this year. The N. Pole will be in perpetual darkness until January 29th when Astronomical twilight returns.

I’m convinced that some liberal think tank invented
“Fake News” and successfully pushed it out to their useful idiots. Now the Googles and Facebooks of the world feel emboldened to become the Ministry of Truth.
Very dangerous.
The Fake News is more than dangerous it is now getting passed as a bill in Congress. It has already passed the house and is headed towards the senate. link
It is ONLY aimed at Russian. Not China Not Saudi Arabia, Iran or anyone else!
Actual bill H.R. 6393, Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017

Surely they should attach Soros and Steyer to the bill.
It has to be said, and ignoring external sources jumping on the bandwagon, the Antarctic has been far more interesting this year on extent than the Arctic due to the very early maxima, which was low, and continuing low values since.
Which is in stark contrast to recent years where the winter increase has been above the norm but the summer decrease about average giving an upward trend compared to the Arctic. So what has happened?
Thoughts?
Andy
“So what has happened?
Remnants of the El Nino and weather patterns have switched the cold to over northern Russia.
Do try to keep up with what is actually happening. !!

See both Arctic and Antarctic, both at record lows.
It’s not been that long since

Well it ain’t anywhere near 2012 or 2013 currently to be honest, but Tony goes a bit quiet when no good news for the masses.
;)
Andy
There was less Antarctic sea ice in 1976, but as is always the case, Andy choses to comment on posts he didn’t even bother to read.
Andy doesn’t seem to understand that I have no interest in brainless climate hysteria and fake statistics.
Have you got the data set for December 2016 so we can make a good comparison?
Post it up.
Andy
Your idiotic comments are not appreciated
No he doesn’t “goes a bit quiet when no good news for the masses.”
And if you had actually read the posts over the last seven days since his stint of travelling and thus his limited time to blog you would have seen this:
https://realclimatescience.com/2016/12/the-true-climate-deniers/
and this:

and this:

and this:

And how is it “bad news for humanity”? Surely your aren’t claiming this WEATHER at the Arctic is indicative real catastrophic climate change?
My post was about amount of posts on sea ice extent when it was growing or high compared to low, so not sure why you posted some chaff on other subjects not connected to actual sea ice extent or increases / decreases since September. Why did you put “bad news for humanity” in quotes when I never said such a thing?
Please put that quote back up your ass where it came from. Cheers.
I agree with Tony he doesn’t have any interest in brainless stats etc.
Lets see how the Arctic winter progresses, I think it will get to be quite normal come Feb, the Antarctic is very unusual though. I would expect it to normalise also, but such a large change since the highs of recent years in very interesting. My guess is the scientists are playing catchup on this as also caught them out as well.
Andy
No “chaff” needed. That’s a defensive item and I don’t need such things with the likes of you.
The point being he has posted two of the posts within the last 7 days have been specifically about Artic Ice though extent or volume or area were not specifically mentioned. So go on lying.
Both teachers and writers (Peter Hannam ?) spend a lot more time studying teaching or writing than they spend studying the subject matter about that they are to teach or write.
As we know not what Peter H. studied, we can only infer he does not know much about the dynamic Earth. So, Peter: It’s like a big round spinning top. It tilts, wobbles, and goes round-&-round the Sun.
When you have mastered this bit, come back for lesson #2.
I keep looking for the Canberra Times news article in September 2014 when Antarctic sea ice extent hit a satellite era record high. I just can’t seem to find it.
Perhaps Peter might reprint it for us.
Does this moron still have a job? How does such an uninformed person get this kind of claptrap into publication?
