Measuring from the March 2007 peak to the March 2017 peak (which is the correct way to measure trends) Arctic sea ice extent has expanded about 60 Manhattans per year over the past decade.
Ice extent is close to “normal.”

Our top experts said the Arctic would be ice-free by 2008.
Expert: Arctic polar cap may disappear this summer_English_Xinhua
North Pole May Be Ice-Free for First Time This Summer
Others were more conservative and said the ice wouldn’t be gone until 2012.

Some were even more conservative and said the ice wouldn’t be gone until 2013.
BBC NEWS | Science/Nature | Arctic summers ice-free ‘by 2013’
Nobel laureate Al Gore was very, very conservative and said the ice wouldn’t be gone until 2014.

He also said Lower Manhattan would be underwater by 2008.
Barack Hussein Obama’s science czar John Holdren, took the idiocy one step further, and predicted ice-free Arctic winters at the 18:54 mark of this CBC interview .
…if you lose the summer sea ice, there are phenomena that could lead you not so very long thereafter to lose the winter sea ice as well. And if you lose that sea ice year round, it’s going to mean drastic climatic change all over the hemisphere.
– John Holdren, 2009
A google search for “sea ice disappearing” produces 546,000 fake news results
Sea ice is not disappearing, but fake climate science soon will be. These people have no idea what they are talking about, and their funding needs to be cut off.
You know…..I really have a problem with measuring the extremes
Extremes are fragile…and any little thing can change it
I just look at the two middles when it all comes back together.
When you say 60 Manhattans, can we assume they’re all liberal?
I have two questions:
1) How long does it take to drink 60 Manhattans?
2) How many Manhattans equal one atomic bomb? (I’m just tying to get my global warming units straight.)
What continues to amaze me is their belief that things will go on in a straight line, that cycles will end, and that we are not in one now. “Run away” global warming – like the earth will suddenly break free of the sun and fly out into space on it’s own. Then is seems as soon as they say these things a huge snowstorm hits the next day and we don’t hear from them for a while. And this cycle just keeps repeating.
To my knowledge, everything in the known universe is rotating to some extent. Rotation manifests itself in waves. Waves crest and valley. What goes around comes around.
What continues to amaze me is their belief that they know it all.
When you back them into a corner, they usually say something like, “I’ll go with the experts.” and that’s the end of the discussion. I’m guessing that if they had a copy of an IPCC report, they’d thump it.
Yes, our latest failed troll Rick is one of those true believers. I asked him to produce just one paper refuting nature, and I asked that he explain in his own words where in that paper I could find the refutation.
All I got was links and an appeal to authority.
What amazes me is
that they have been proven wrong so many many times((by the looney conspiracy theorists called reality and mother nature))
and still believe that they are right.
Reminds me of those people who believe that a pedophile, mass murdering mass enslaver is the most perfect human being ever and sent by god.
At least i can understand the latter as they are 90% illiterate or badly educated and are threatenrd to live forever in hell if they don’t believe this.
Tony – It seems I need to remind you yet again about the shortcomings of MASIE? Here you go:
http://GreatWhiteCon.info/2016/02/dmi-masie-and-the-sea-ice-index-an-interview-with-walt-meier/
How many wrong predictions do your own gods have to make until
you realise that there is something inherently wrong with them?
And let’s not talk about shortcomings-you’ll find them in your pants (when you use magyfying glasses)
I don’t believe in gods SxyxS.
Your Gods are more of the human kind.
And you treat them like that
as:
No matter how many wrong predicition they made,
you still follow them blindly.
I do not believe in anyone who is making wrong predictions,
especially not in those who are crying out loud
and try to ridicule the opposition.
And i for sure do have zero respect for people
who have lied many times for decades and still claim that they are right.
If someone lies to me once-all right.
If someone lies to me twice- i’ll stop believing him.
If someone still try to lie to and is even so shameless
to call me names when i don’t believe his shit i will punch his face.
You have experts telling you about bombing Lybia,Iraq,Syria is necessary?
Everything turned out to be a lie and i knew exactly what will happen to those countries when they bomb them.
You have experts telling you islam is a religion
of peace?
lol-i’m from muslim origin and even my poo
knows more about islam than you western shitty sociophantic islam experts.
Everything they say is bullshit, cherrypicked stuff and every person who left islam can tell you how wrong they are.
And now experts who are always wrong keep talking their climate crap-and once again all my predictions in the past years had been much better.
How stupid do you think people are?
All this shit i mentioned above is coming from the usa and promoted by their media(special interesst groups)-and the more you follow their official crap the worser it will get.
(for the people in Lybia,Syria,Europe,Ukraine)
agreed, And I have a one granddad from the middle east.
This is what Soros, Obummer, Hillary and GW Bush did to the place. And those are the same ones pushing the CAGW crap.
Yet you still have a baseless unsupportable religion. !
… go figure. !!
That was a reply to Jimbo, btw
Jim,
Rather than deflecting, do you want to comment on the Arctic ice nonsense spewed by the Holdrens, Wadhams, Borensteins and Gores of the alarmist cause. The NSIDC ice map shown above in no way appears alarming to me and other skeptics. If you were to at least be critical of the more outrageous and unwarranted projections of the chicken little element, you would gain some respect here.
Jim, agree with Robert on this.
You never seem to care about the many Arctic researchers making absurd No Summer Ice predictions, over ten years time.
Maybe because you also made such prediction too in the past too?
I’m suggesting that you read what the organisation that generates the MASIE data in Tony’s first graph has to say about it.
In what way is that “deflecting”?
The post was about wild and irresponsible predictions by “respected” scientists and science personalities, Jim. You just continue to willfully deflect from the subject of the post. NSCDI vs DMI, neither lend any credence to the ice doomsday projected by your apparent mentors.
Jim does that out of habit,as he is a dishonest debtor.
Tony’s post starts with a multi-year MASIE chart.
Q.E.D?
And it shows NO change in Arctic sea ice.
EVERY one of those moron friends of your has been proven ABSOLUTELY WRONG in their
“predictions” of sea ice loss.
There is no massive loss of Arctic sea ice.
You are LIAR and COWARD, jimbo.
At the risk of (repeating myself)^n, n → ∞:
“Have you read what the organisation that generates the MASIE data has to say about it?
Or not?”
Asking again, because Jimbo loves to highlight his COWARDICE in refusing to answer.
What does CIS say about Arctic multi-year sea ice, Jimbo, you slimy yellow-back.
At the risk of repeating myself, here’s what ESA’s SMOS says about Tony’s “multi-year Arctic sea ice” Andy.
In actual fact some of it is new, thin first year sea ice:
Of course he doesn’t! Because the current models and predictions are much more accurate than ten years ago and ten years from now they’ll be exponentially more accurate than the faulty data of today. Shell game Jimmy…
At the risk of (repeating myself)^n:
“Have you read what the organisation that generates the MASIE data has to say about it?
Or not?”
YAWN
What does CIS say about Arctic multi-year sea ice, Jimbo, you cowardly cockroach ?
Meanwhile Jim, what about the shortcomings of Arctic experts making wildly wrong, No Summer Ice prediction?
Which “Arctic experts” might those be Tommy? The single outlier by any chance?
So, the “experts” (throwing out the 7 or 8 outliers on the left) cover a range of +- the average year to year variation in minimum extent. And this is less than a year out. How is this useful or meaningful?
It shows remarkably few “experts” predicting Tommy’s “No Summer Ice”.
Q.E.D?
You mean down to 1 wadham, hey Jimbo?
No one is predicting a return to pre-LIA minimums.
Interesting isn’t it :-)
Shows that they know we are still very much in cold times.
https://vimeo.com/14366077
Or is it that they are all totally and WILFULLY ignorant (like you are) of the often zero summer sea ice extents during the first 3/4 of the Holocene?
Which is it little yellow-back
Another question for to avoid.
Are the Arctic worriers IGNORANT of Holocene history??
or do they KNOW we are nowhere near as warm as the Arctic was during the Holocene optimum.
Waiting for you answer, Jimbo… waiting to watch your COWARDLY avoidance. :-)
Here is what Jimboy doesn’t want anyone to see:
2008,
“The polar cap in the Arctic may well disappear this summer due to the global warming, Dr. Olav Orheim, head of the Norwegian International Polar Year Secretariat, said on Friday.”
and,
2008,
Arctic warming has become so dramatic that the North Pole may melt this summer, report scientists studying the effects of climate change in the field.
“We’re actually projecting this year that the North Pole may be free of ice for the first time [in history],” David Barber, of the University of Manitoba, told National Geographic News aboard the C.C.G.S. Amundsen, a Canadian research icebreaker.”
and,
2007
:Their latest modelling studies indicate northern polar waters could be ice-free in summers within just 5-6 years.
Professor Wieslaw Maslowski told an American Geophysical Union meeting that previous projections had underestimated the processes now driving ice loss.
Summer melting this year reduced the ice cover to 4.13 million sq km, the smallest ever extent in modern times.
Remarkably, this stunning low point was not even incorporated into the model runs of Professor Maslowski and his team, which used data sets from 1979 to 2004 to constrain their future projections.
“In the end, it will just melt away quite suddenly
Professor Peter Wadhams”
“Our projection of 2013 for the removal of ice in summer is not accounting for the last two minima, in 2005 and 2007,” the researcher from the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California, explained to the BBC.
“So given that fact, you can argue that may be our projection of 2013 is already too conservative.”
All these warmist propaganda clowns are researchers in the Arctic, alongwith Serrezze who said the Arctic is screaming back in 2007, saying it would all melt away.
Stop being a dishonest jerk.
Ha ha ha….,
You chide Robert about not reading your link, you seems to miss all the predictions made from as long as 10 years ago from the likes of Gore, Dr. Orgeim,Mr. Barber,Dr Serrezze, Dr. Maslowski, Dr. Hansen.
Tony talked about these “experts” wrong predictions right here at the top of this page.
Pathetic
Are you blind Tommy?
Right at the top of this page Tony proudly displays a multi-year MASIE chart.
You truly are PATHETIC. and such a squirming slimy little trollette.
What does CIS say about Arctic multi-year sea ice, Jimbo, you cowardly cockroach ?
You are indeed dumb Jimmy, since I was talking about Arctic experts being profoundly wrong, for over ten years now.
The Media screamed about it for years, using these “Arctic experts” statements predicting no Summer Ice over and over.
You finally get it?
Jimbo, is just a squirmy little worm on Tony’s hook
It must be so embarrassing to know that you at his beck and call, Jimbo, little worm. :-)
“Ice extent is close to “normal”
No, it is at a record low for the date and dropped 262 thousand km2 in just three days.
We just had the lowest ever ‘maximum’ .
http://neven1.typepad.com/
Really, this is going to be a bad year for the ice.
I predict a rapid drop in postings on arctic sea ice on this site…
First off “bad” is a term that some here would consider to apply to opposite results. “Bad” to me in reference to Arctic Ice extent would apply when the extent grows to the point of reaching Iceland or beyond because IMO another event like LIA would be “bad” but another event like the MWP would be the opposite.
Now as far as your prognostication. I suspect your correct that summer melt this year will similar to last year if not exceed it. And that to me is GOOD!
RAH, they do not understand that human life is more important than ice. You will never get past that mental block with this type.
True, though Ms Griff and other progressive urbanites are willing to make an exception for Inuit life as long as those darned natives comply with their requirements of how they must live. No carbon footprint and no molesting of the ice!
The Icelandic sea ice index shows how BAD it was during the LIA.
Brought all commerce and fishing up there to a grinding, freezing halt.
Late 1970’s were up there with those most desperate of times.
Let’s all hope that levels continue to drop towards pre-LIA levels, for the benefit of all who live up there.
We just need to close our ears to the ignorant yapping of the Arctic sea ice scammers.
forgot the pic…
Bad is an acceleration in local and global warming, due to loss of albedo, etc.
Bad is displacement of arctic cold air to more southerly regions, changes in air circulation, changes to jet stream, increase in Greenland ice sheet melting
Bad is loss of hunting areas and impact on way of life of Inuit communities.
Bad is decline in polar bear populations. For the bears, at least.
Really, there is no change to or impact on weather or climate in the rest of the world from a decline in arctic sea ice?
Please cite the papers where this has been researched/proven…
Nothing bad about local warming, its a recovery from the freezing cold of the LIA.
Greenland ice sheet has a massive SMB gain this year and last
The Inuit are nomadic, and they don’t need ice holes to fish, its what they have learnt to do when there is too much sea ice.
You dare to mention polar bears, which you have been proven to know absolutely NOTHING about and the absolute mockery you made of yourself in your last attempt over on WUWT !.. so funny , and so unaware of your own idiocy.
As usual, EVERYTHING you think you know is provable WRONG !!!!
You exist in a fantasy world of ANTI-knowledge.
Meanwhile YOU didn’t post any citations yourself.
Meanwhile this is what Willis Eschenbach has to say about you, in reply to your comment:
“Yes, it does. READ THE DAMN CITATION!
As to the rest of your claims, sorry, but I don’t have any interest in discussing anything with you. I’ve seen far too many of your endless meaningless puerile strings of useless objections and meaningless meanderings and bogus climate claims that go on and on ad nauseam … sorry, Griff, but you’ll have to talk to the hand, ’cause the head’s not listening …
And for those lucky folks that don’t know you, my advice to them is, whatever you do, don’t touch the tar baby …
w.”

Don’t worry Sunsettommy. I leave for Ayre, MA via Findlay, OH tonight. Time to get some sleep since I’ll be driving from 22:00 till about noon tomorrow before I pull in to take a 10 hour break at the Oneida service area off I-90. You all have fun now.
If the loss of ice meant accelerated and uncontrolled warming then why have we EVER had periods of glaciation?
Polar bears are fine and will survive just as they have for at least the last 110,ooo years which include several warming periods far beyond what we are experiencing or could be expected to for some time to come based on the evidence. https://wattsupwiththat.com/2017/01/19/has-recent-summer-sea-ice-loss-caused-polar-bear-populations-to-crash/
And so on and so forth.
“No, it is at a record low for the date and dropped 262 thousand km2 in just three days.”
Soooooo Grif, what caused this tremendous drop in extent? You going to tell us that all that ice melted that quickly are you?
What you have done here, without realizing it, is demonstrated the folly of hanging ones hat on sea ice extent as a measure of climate because it is effected by so many factors and in fact the most precipitous drops, such as this one you think is so indicative of climate, result from wave and wind action or IOW sea state and not insulation, sublimation, etc.
Sure looks like the ice extent grew during the last thirty days
http://ocean.dmi.dk/arctic/icedrift_anim/index.uk.php (click loop)
And this shows the ice drift (Change concentration to ice drift and click loop)
Griffy and Jimmy Boy seem to thing the Arctic is one solid piece of ice with no movement except for melt from ‘warm air’
Quite right Gail.
I never watch my own videos!
https://youtu.be/8yOXT1g3tM4
Not even you can stomach the deceit and lying that is in them..
..is that what you are telling us, Jimbo
They are always going to be putrid, if you are involved in any way.
Come on little sewer scum,
What does CIS say about Arctic multi-year sea ice, Jimbo, you cowardly piece of slime. ?
Melt of the ice which has been blown out into warmer water by storm.
So.. weather!
At least you are learning something. !
Which is the lucky village that has lost its village idiot !
I bet they don’t want griff back. too much stupid. !
I’m sure that you have been told many times that the current levels are WAY above Holocene norms.
… and that there was often zero summer sea ice during the first 3/4 of the current interglacial.
.. and that the reason sea ice levels are still SO HIGH is that the Earth has only had a small amount of warming out of the coldest period in the last 10,000 years.
Why are you DENYING that these changes in climate took place.?
You seem to be a climate change denier, is that right, griff?
Griff – “I predict a rapid drop in postings on Arctic sea ice on this site”
You should be so lucky!
Jimbo, are you still Denying Climate Change?
Still DENYING that levels are currently far higher than pre-LIA??
Denying that a drop in Arctic sea ice back to those pre-LIA levels would be highly advantageous for the local people.
Denial of climate change is all you have, isn’t it, little yellow-back. !
I hope not.. Tony likes to keep you on his hook.
and its just so easy for him.
“Arctic” … coming here Jimbo, you little slimebag.
Works every time. :-)
Jim
“Griff – “I predict a rapid drop in postings on Arctic sea ice on this site”
You should be so lucky!”
These two lovebirds should start a game show…
“The Jimmy and Grifter Great Shell Game”!
It would have a following of well….two!! LOL
And they still only share half a brain !! not each.
But when they aren’t being two-face LIARS, griff probably looks more like this..
“Arctic” … coming here Jimbo, you little slimebag.
Bell rings… slobber time.
Too bad that Genocide Jim doesn’t know that he is the experiment. Just how dedicated to starving millions are these lefists?
Mr Heller won’t be posting any more until the autumn I strongly suspect.
Your suspicions are what normal people call delusions.
Griff – Even the NSIDC 5 day averaged extent is well into “lowest for the date” territory.
I have to agree with Gator for once though. Don’t expect that to stop Mr. Heller posting nonsense like “Arctic sea ice extent has expanded about 60 Manhattans per year over the past decade.”
I still don’t see what all this excitement is about.
Isn’t the arctic sea about 14-15 kilometers squared?
…but the highest it’s ever been was about 16
That’s at least 8 Egypts…2 kilometers squared.
and it’s 2 kilometers squared less.
…no one would miss 1 Egypt
and being 1 Egypt less is not a big deal…there’s still 7 Egypts up there
Latitude, Griff & Co have millions yet to starve to death this year, they are very busy and very excited about their goal of 8 million corpses this year.
Just how many Hunts is that? Eight?
Still DENYING climate history , I see, Jimbo.
Unable to ever state the truth that sea ice levels are FAR above those of pre-LIA, because we are only just coming out of the COLDEST period in 10,000 years.
Until you can get over your COWARDICE and admit that fact, you will remain a cowardly yellow backed, snotty troll.
Won’t it be absolutely wonderful for all those living in the region if it does drop down a bit from the current anomalously high levels.
Fishing, commercial transport, oil exploration, less danger of getting trapped in sea ice.
The fishing up there was apparently really good before the Little Ice Age but that coldest of periods stopped the livelihood of the people.
There would be MASSIVE BENEFITS of the Arctic sea ice dropping to pre-LIA levels….
The only problem would be the constant squawking from those most ignorant of Climate Change Deniers… Jimbo, Griff, Neven etc
Pickled Herring…. Drool…
I always have a jar in the fridge. (Hubby is Danish and Swedish.)
Close call, Gail …
North Sea Herring is now pretty much extinct andy.
why is that?
“why is that?”
That is caused by the other species called Red Herring.
Andy, I propose that in recognition of Ms Griff’s contributions to progressive global warming math we designate the annual catch of 44,000 tons of extinct North Sea Herring as “1 griff“.
I think you’re just a little behind the times.
“North Sea Herring is now pretty much extinct.
why is that?
Over fishing, and loss of Arctic waters due to ice infestation.
“North Sea Herring is now pretty much extinct ”
And where did you pluck that LIE from?
http://www.fishingforthetruth.co.uk/north-sea-cod-fish-stocks-healthy-too/
Same place you get all your other ANTI-knowledge, and LIES from ??
You’ll strain your arm and wrist if you reach much further. !!
Griff:
We are still waiting for your scientist(s) to give us a paper on measurements of CO2 causing warming??
Waiting….
Just google it.
I’m not going to do it for you.
We know you can’t do it, griff.
Your incompetence is legendary.
“I’m not going to do it for you.”
That’s is probably the most PATHETIC avoidance we have ever seen..
And Jimbo isn’t even here. !!
Is griff challenging Jimbo for grossest, most slimy and slithery, yellow-back coward…. !
.. sorry griff, you are still have a long, long way to go.
Sebastian and Sod,over at No Tricks Zone blog, have been repeatedly asked the similar question posed by Gerald, they never provide one. This despite that they have been asked over and over, in thread after thread, they NEVER post one.
So your google suggestion means you don’t have one either.
Just google it.
I’m not going to do it for you.
Ms Griff is ignorant of actual climate science, as evidenced by her wrong answers, and failure to admit that natural variability is still the most likely cause of all global climate changes.
BTW here are some nice photos of the Iditarod where Rick seemed to think it was too hot!
http://www.msn.com/en-us/travel/article/13-stunning-photos-of-people-racing-through-alaska-in-the-iditarod/ss-AAnITZK?ocid=spartanntp#image=1
No, it really is hot. Didn’t you see the sandals that they had to put on the dogs so they wouldn’t burn their feet on the white hot sand?
And last year?
and next year?
One late cold blip in 3 years of record warm Alaska does not give confidence this race’s future is secure.
LOL a bunch of places here in the eastern US that lie between 40 and 50 deg. latitude just set all time records for snow fall and your worried about a race run between 60 and 66 deg. latitude? How am I going to sleep at night?
RAH,
Use Ms Griff’s recommended method: Draw a few strong sniffs of a well-aged red herring right before bedtime and you will sleep like a baby.
Despite having eaten in a Norwegian Army mess for about a month, I still love pickled or creamed herring. But those two fish my friend do not bring back fond memories.
Griff go to this site and check out the records reported for snowfall at various places in the NE US from Rochester, NY on up into Maine, just five days ago.
https://www.iceagenow.info/
GACK,
I used to live in Rochester, NY and then moved to the Boston area including just north of WOOoooosta (Worcester for the non-Bostonians)
Boy am I glad I moved down here 20+ years ago!
Wooster set a one day record also I believe.
And Leominster, MA is Leminster said real fast.

Love this bit…
“Actually, the scientific literature strongly suggests that the correlation between rising CO2 and temperature would appear to veer off in the opposite direction: as CO2 rises, temperatures decline.”
Just finished an article regarding this post:
Climate “Science” on Trial; The Moment of Truth
https://co2islife.wordpress.com/2017/03/21/climate-science-on-trial-the-moment-of-truth/
logical and to the point….I give it a 10
oi !! that looks like science.. that’ll confuse a couple of the rolls !! :-)
Define hypothesis..
Present what would verify/disprove that hypothesis within a sensible time span.
Why haven’t “climate scientists™” ever done that ?¿
Only problem I see is how long until the cooling from cosmic ray cloud seeding starts to take affect. There is still a lot of pent up solar energy in the oceans.
I suspect another small El Nino, then the cooling trend will set in, so we may still need to wait a year or so. Time will tell.
If Dr Evans is correct we should start seeing the cooling in a year or two.
Actually we are seeing it but very few recognize it because it is showing as milder summers, snowier winters and the jets switching from zonal to meridonal even in the summer.
I noticed it because the winds (and weather) ALWAYS came out of the west, from about Knoxville TN over the Appalachians, across the neighbors cow pasture straight at us making it very easy to figure out the weather. What Knoxville got we got a few days later. Then the sun went sleepy and the winds (and weather) now come from all different directions and the weather forecasts aren’t worth the electrons they are ‘printed on’ This weekend (with the loss of $1,000) is a case in point. A decent forecast on Thursday or even Friday would have kept several of our gigs from chickening out.
Since our business is completely dependent on the weather and has been for over 25 years, we noticed.
Nice and concise.
If you have not seen it, Take a look at Dr Evans work on a ‘solar model’
FOUND a major flaw in the CO2 driven climate models (Dr Evans has worked for years as a modeler.)
http://sciencespeak.com/climate-basic.html
His new model:
