Extent Of Multi-Year Sea Ice At Ten Year High

Exact opposite of claims by climate fraudsters, the extent of multi-year sea ice is growing and at a ten year high. I generated the graph by pixel counting the white pixels, which represent multi-year ice. The map below is 3/8/2017.

Once again Tony will cause Griff to get his panties in a terrible knot. Cue Griff to show up ranting about thin ice in the Beaufort or some other such nonsense any moment!
Iditarod is running with low night time temps of -49F or -45C two days ago …. hardly global warming stuff but there were GLO-BULL warming headlines prior to the start of the race.
Check out their website for some good coverage and pictures. I signed up for the insiders package this year and get real time GPS of the teams and a lot of other stuff.

I am just in from shoveling the driveway, sidewalk and rear patio and brushing about 8 cm of snow off the cars at -17C good link to a weather station a neighbour has http://wx.ca/
While working away my fingers were slowly freezing which is a problem with holding tools or a shovel at these temps and I was thinking that Griff has likely never had frozen fingers or frozen toes or had frostbite and yet the little shit thinks he is an expert on the cold.
Likely the only ice the little shit Griff ever sees is in his freezer!

  3. Thomas Robbins says:

The Iditarod is FREEZING cold this year…

Thanks for all of your continued hard work over the years. I’ve been a regular readers of your blog for many years and am grateful for the education I’ve received here. I was wondering if you could give a brief explanation as to how one can download the data that you used to create the graph on this page and what program you use to create these graphs?

This should work on most Linux distributions. Plot with Excel.

      set DATE=0307
      rm -f MYI_${DATE}.csv
      foreach year (2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017)
      rm -f ice_type_nh_${year}${DATE}1200.jpg
      echo ice_type_nh_${year}${DATE}1200.jpg
      curl -O http://osisaf.met.no/quicklooks/prod/ice/${year}/03/ice_type_nh_${year}${DATE}1200.jpg
      convert ice_type_nh_${year}${DATE}1200.jpg ice_type_nh_${year}${DATE}1200.txt
      echo $year”,”`grep ‘#F’ ice_type_nh_${year}${DATE}1200.txt | wc | awk -F” ” ‘{print $1}’` >> MYI_${DATE}.csv

Tony – Have you by any chance tried “pixel counting” any other agencies maps of “multi-year sea ice”?

Do you see that big white area in the Beaufort Sea in your chosen map? Where is it on this map from the Canadian Ice Service?

    • Sunsettommy says:

I am shocked that the ice is still there………..

      • Gail Combs says:

I am shocked that Jimmy Boy is still pedaling his Great White Con.

People like him really really make me want to see the start of the new Ice Age.

Is that YOUUUuu Jimmy Boy or is it Viner.

    • AndyG55 says:

So childish the way Jimbo the clown picks one little area where Canadian group disagree with the satellite data.

      So sad.. SO PATHETIC.

I hope your trough swilling boyfriends at Exeter and Met are not paying you, little yellow-back troll….

Because they are wasting the trougher money, or other favours, if they are.

      • Gail Combs says:

That is how you know Jimmy Boy is a troll for the ClimAstrologists. He doesn’t have the brains to dig that out on his own. They had to feed it to him.

        • AndyG55 says:

I’m guessing that basically everything on his DECEITFIUL, LYING, CON web site is fed to him by the Exeter troughers. He is their poppet. !!

          • Gail Combs says:

            “He is their poppet.”

…A poppet is a life-like figure or doll made to represent a person or animal and is used in ritual, magic and spell-craft to effect change through the application of sympathetic or imitative magic (see Sir James George Frazer below).

Sympathetic magic works on the principles of “similarity” and “associated contact” (i.e. like attracts and effects like). It is based on the belief that someone or something can be magically affected by doing something to an object in one place, that represents a person or thing in another place. To achieve this a poppet is made as a representation of a person or thing and contains items associated with or belonging to that same person or object. Once made and magically charged, any action performed upon the poppet, is thought to cause or effect a similar reaction on the person or object it represents.

The use of poppets in witchcraft and magic is an age-old practice, but their potential uses have long been closely guarded secrets, and as such there are an abundance of myths, folklore and superstition surrounding their use. For example, in more recent times poppets have been negatively aligned with the Voodoo Dolls of Haiti, which through popular fantasy fiction portrayed in films and on T.V, are commonly associated with malicious intent – revenge, hate or evil.

During the witch hysteria of the 17th century, at the infamous trial of the Lancashire Witches in 1612, Old Mother Demdike confessed and described the quickest way to murder someone by witchcraft as: “…to make a Picture of clay, like unto the shape of the person whom they mean to kill, and dry it thoroughly: and when they would have them to be ill in any one place more than another; then take a Thorn or a Pin, and prick it in that part of the body to consume away, then take that part of the Picture, and burn it. And when they would have the whole body to consume away, then take the remnant of said Picture and burn it: and so thereupon by that means, the body shall die.”

Sounds like a good description of Jimmy Boy.

          • AndyG55 says:

            Well done Gail. :-)

I was thinking that the Exeter boys would look on him as the other meaning…..

… A naïve little child to be used as they want to.

    Tony said

” I generated the graph by pixel counting the white pixels, which represent multi-year ice. The map below is 3/8/2017.”

    But do they ?

How can those white pixels being multiyear ice be in places where no ice was there last summer? Drift? I don’t think so, though I would be happy to be proved wrong.

    • AndyG55 says:

“I would be happy to be proved wrong.”

You are so used to it… your natural state of being.

    • neal s says:

You seem skeptical that there could be multiyear ice in places where there was no ice last summer. Yet when it suits your purposes, ice can move around, and when it doesn’t suit you, ice cannot. If a big chunk of multiyear ice moves around, why couldn’t it be later found in a place where it hadn’t been before?

      • Andy says:

Ok, explain how multiyear ice turned up in the places I put my arrow against?

Here’s a question, down the right hand side of Greenland there is an outflow of ice. Some of that on this map is multiyear ice, but not all. Why? Why is there multiyear ice to the west of Baffin Island when no flows occur to push that there? It’s got single year ice between it and the mass of PROPER multiyear ice to the north. How can multiyear ice appear there?

And explain the multiyear ice to near Svalbard, this chunk of multiyear ice seems to have stretched itself out to exist along the very edge of the entire sheet. hmmmm

Alternatively this map has some deficiencies on counting white pixels year on year to show older ice.

Don’t want to be seen to be rude, but have you considered asking an adult to help out with some of your posts? This is a real science blog so that sort of help might help you integrate more fully.

    • AndyG55 says:

Have you ever considered doing some basic research before you post..

You are constantly coming across as a dull-witted, brain-washed AGW apologist.

You might want to actually think about that before you continue to post arrant nonsense. You want to discuss science.. then bring some, and not baseless propaganda pap.

    • AndyG55 says:

And please .. your puny leftist victim-crying, isn’t going to affect anyone here.

We are so, so used to it.

    • Jim Hunt says:

We’re going to have to agree to disagree on that point Andy.

This is an (un)real science blog.

      • AndyG55 says:

And you, Jimbo, are a pathetic little AGW con-man and climate change denier who’s only knowledge of any science is that fed to you by the Exeter boys.

You lap up their propaganda pap, just to ingratiate yourself with them.

You don’t actually believe one single bit of it , do you Jimbo… its all just play acting for favours from the boys.

      • gator69 says:

Genocide Jim is an (anti)human agenda hog.
