      Well Griff.
      If you knew a bit about history you would have never used this as an arguement,
      as the modern “father” of continental drift,
      Alfred Wegener has been fought and succesfully destroyed
      by the “establishment” scientists
      and therefore his theories had been kept back for decades.

      And you are trying to defend Mainstream by
      a great theorie that has been opposed tooth&nails by the mainstream you are warshipping.

      Whenever someone is ridiculed out of proportion
      and even words are created to defame and stigmatize him(climate denier,islamophob),to keep him silent and no critics are treated like heretics-
      there is a big lie that has to be protected
      and every trick is used to keep the lie alive.

        Wegener first published his theory in a 1912 paper. The first edition of his book came out in 1916 with overwhelming evidence in four categories: rock strata, plant fossils, geographic correspondence (Africa/South America) and plant fossils versus lattitude (tropical fern fossils in coal beds on Svalbard). It was not accepted until the late 1960s/early 1970s after symmetric magnetic pole reversals were confirmed in the basalts on either side of the mid Atlantic Ridge, proving seafloor spreading. Eventually the skeptical view on CAGW will prevail. Skeptics are like Wegener, how challenged the then prevailing geological consensus.

          And that’s the problem with people like Griff:
          They even try to defend the mainstream science with the biggest victims of mainstream science.

          Just as you could not buy mainstream books about continental drift 30 years after the discovery you can not buy mainstream books from “AGW-sceptics”
          30 years after they started to expose the scam.

          Thanks God noone told Griff about Ignaz Semmelweis and how he was destroyed by mainstream scientists and put into an asylum and died with many broken bones
          and his discoveries had been kept down for many years and millions died because of this surpression
          during that time.
          Then Griff may realise where the biggest witch hunters are.
          On the other hand:
          Just few month ago many scientist(an entire grouo) had been caught lying,conspiring and manipulating
          in the name of their superrich lords =VW car fume scandal.
          And Griff has learned=NOTHING.

          I guess for people like Griff
          There is nothing more sustainable than putting millions of people into a dry desert-rich state ,
          without increasing Watersupply by building new dams and lakes.
          Of course those needed lakes and dams can not be built as once again,people like Griff won’t allow this,because they want to protect the environment.

      Geologists of 1941,also ignored Harlon j. Bretz work on ice age floods:

      “J Harlen Bretz was a geologist who launched one of the great controversies of modern science by arguing, in the 1920s, that the deep canyons and pockmarked buttes of the arid “scablands” of Eastern Washington had been created by a sudden, catastrophic flood — not, as most of his peers believed, by eons of gradual erosion. It was a bold challenge to the prevailing principle of “uniformitarianism,” which held that the earth was shaped by processes that can be observed in the present. Since a flood of the almost Biblical proportions envisioned by Bretz had never been seen, the idea was dismissed as a throwback to the pre-scientific doctrine of “catastrophism.” Not until the 1940s did other geologists begin to present new evidence supporting the flood theory. Satellite imagery in the 1970s provided the final vindication. Bretz had the satisfaction of living long enough to see his once heretical ideas become the new orthodoxy. In 1979, at age 96, he received the Penrose Medal, geology’s highest honor. He later reportedly told his son: “All my enemies are dead, so I have no one to gloat over” (Smithsonian). ”

      I live in Eastern Washington, have seen with my own eyes the obvious flood effects, all over the state. Yet geologists mostly ignored him,left him out of textbook for decades……

      Griff, you are making our argument for us, non believers. Science is never settled and is always metamorphosing, the global warming phase of climate belief is waining and a global cooling phase of science is coming back into vogue.

    Modern warming will probably last about another 50-100 years, then fade away to another prolonged cooling run.

    The Eddy cycle is around the peak level which means not much longer will long warming drive continue.

    Life goes on,enjoy it.

    Interesting to see that one of the authors was Stephen Schneider. What happened between 1971 when he co-authored this article and the 1990s when he became one of the most outspoken alarmists? I also believe he had written a forward to someone else’s book during the 1970s that warned against an advent of the next ice age.

    Methinks maybe grant money became more available for those with the “correct” research.

    Seems to me if AGW really is a thing it’s primary effect has been moderate winters with a secondary effect of slightly milder summers. That is what the data shows if you look beyond the bogus average the publish. Along with CO2 having changed very slightly (I call a .01% change in the composition of the atmosphere a very slight change) it appears to me the benefits have been pretty obvious. For one thing I have never seen tomato plants grow as fast as they are doing right now. That has been stunning. Plus, the increase in food has driven noticeable increases in animal life. The best indicator of that has been an explosion in predator species. 20 years ago you were lucky to see a hawk and you never saw an eagle. Today, seeing hawks is a daily thing. Eagles are not nearly as uncommon. It is amazing. Other predators have seemingly re-appeared such as coyotes. I have been seeing deer frequently where there hasn’t been any in generations. Even fish populations have risen. Other critters who have been scarce have started showing up such as ground hogs. I don’t see these things as signs of the apocalypse!

    I live in the great state of Georgia just outside of Atlanta by the way.

    These alarmists seem to want to ignore human history. Civilizations have generally flourished, arts and science have progressed, during warm periods not cold. Cold brings famine, disease, high infant mortality, and other such things. Longer growing seasons and milder winters are good things.
