Experts say the Arctic is super-hot and the ice is melting, but mysteriously the hot Arctic air becomes very cold when it moves south.
I just bought my plane ticket to the UK for December.

We get this nonsense every year, usually from the Daily Express. The problem for forecasters is that the UK winter is totally unpredictable, rendering any forecast as mere speculation.
Suggest you look at the years when there is a La Nina. Those years do correlate well with tougher than average winters in the UK and western Europe. Joe Bastardi showed the analogs a couple weeks ago in one of his Saturday Summaries.
Thanks Rah, I didn’t know that. Still a cold winter in the UK is not that bad, not like a proper Canadian winter. Regards John
This student is cheering for a fully frozen Griffsicle. I would love for the bastard lose a few toes to frostbite just to shut his gob about Globull warming.
You’ll know it is a “good” forecast when the projected “cold” storm will be given a name.
(The UK is envious of North America’s named hurricanes, and they now name many of the incoming gales).
They started doing that about the same time The Weather Channel started naming winter storms in the US. Anymore government agencies are as likely to over hype as the “news” is. It’s a constant sales pitch. They’re all like used car salesmen these days, only usually better dressed and more dishonest.
I’m irritated by the National Weather Service’s rebranding of winter weather events, condensing them down to one of three (advisory, watch, warning) for all types of weather. Really? People don’t know WTF a ‘blizzard watch’ is? Or freezing rain? What is an ‘advisory’ going to do that the other nomenclature didn’t?
Between naming winter storms and changing nomenclature because some people are absolute idiots and shouldn’t be swimming in the gene pool, I’m fed up with the NWS to no end.
First frost here in Birmingham (UK) last night – Autumn has arrived
Anyone pretending they can forecast a UK winter is a fool. It is always a knife-edge.
Every year we get the freezer forecast, sooner or later they will be right!
Last year (apart from January) it was very mild because of the positions of blocking anticyclones drawing up warm air. If the centers had been a few hundred miles the other way it would have dragged in cold continental air and been exceptionally cold.
December 2010 was the second coldest since 1659 with a CET -0.7C (only 7 negative ever, coldest ever was -0.8C) and 2015 was the warmest ever with a CET +9.7C.
If often flip flops massively within a few years.
Is Al Gore coming with you?
Don’t tempt fate Paul. If the Goracle were to come here, we’d enduring -20 or something !
“Freezing arctic winds will cause widespread snow…”
But I thought snow was a thing of the past?
Nah….after some research i found out that they just spelled it wrong.
The original text was supposed to be:”Science is a thing from the past”
And in terms of AGW science is non existent.
Hasn’t been seen there for many years and many claim it will never return.
They traded science for a new religion:
AGW= Allahs Global Whackos.
hahaha, that’s awesome. Had a good chuckle at that one, Tony.
If visiting the UK, prepare for some truly ridiculous exaggerations in the media.
E.g.
“Severe arctic blast” = a bit colder than usual
“Blizzard” = light sprinkling of snow that melted by lunchtime
“Killer heatwave” = prolonged sunshine, warmer than usual
Much more interestingly, if you ever wondered what a “flisty” or a “blinter” was or what “gowsty” means then here is a nice list of terms here:
https://www.weatheronline.co.uk/reports/wxfacts/British-Weather-Terms.htm
For the UK to have widespread cold and snow, you need t0 push the usual westerly winds off the Atlantic far to the south, and replace it with easterlies or northeasterlies, coming off Russia or Scandinavia.
A lot depends on what the jetstream is doing.
‘The jetstream plays a large role when it comes to the weather across the UK’

There is no way this is the Govt forecast, they forecast warmer winters and summers and they really are very very smart with very very powerful computers so they must know. Where I live the forecasters have trouble with tomorrows weather, they need better and faster computers…….
Anyway I have really crazy weather where I am, today it rained all morning and in the afternoon the sun came out, weird weird weird….How can it go from raining to sunny?? Must be Global Weirding…
If one lives in a place that can get cold and snow in winter (we do), responsible people prepare for it (we do).
We have saved the money to pay our heating bill, and in the next week or so I’ll cut and split more dry wood for the fire — just in case.
We have sufficient food and water to last a week or maybe two.
Despite the forecast not following the global warming theme, the agencies are morally required to warn people of dangerous conditions. -11°C can be deadly.
If that is your region — prepare. Do you know others that you can help now? If so, do help. Water? Food? Heat?
Hope is not a plan.
I’m beginning to think the human race has evolved into bipedal wimps. Here in Western Manitoba our all-time record high for today is 23C and all-time record low is -23C. We hit -11C overnight two days ago. And it is still October!
They are getting more moderate a worst winter in five years is better than a worst winter in a hundred years that they forecast last year. The problem with the classification of winters in the UK between mild and cold is because of the comparison with the winter of 1962-1963 and the sixties in general anything compared to that winter is likely to be considered mild, even though last winter was cold in all three months last year it was milder in comparison.
Roughly along the lines of my NAO/AO outlook, deeper negative NAO/AO conditions from mid December to mid January. The easterly QBO phase would help bring the cold shots into the UK rather than just the rest of Europe as in January 2017.
