Plummeting August 9 Temperatures In The US

Over the last century, August 9th maximum temperatures have plummeted in the US, with the hottest years occurring in the 1920’s and 1930’s.

Here are some of the top August 9 heatwaves going back to 1896.

On this date in 1928, almost the entire US was over 90 degrees.

It was 114 degrees in Arkansas and 113 degrees in Illinois on this date in 1930.

It was 114 degrees in Nebraska, and 113 degrees in Illinois and Iowa on this date in 1934.

It was 116 degrees in Kansas and 114 degrees in Missouri on this date in 1936.

Compare with 2017, which was officially one of the “hottest years ever” – and was eleven degrees cooler than 1936.
