Tony, I am being lazy in doing thorough research by presenting my question to you but it is what it is…
I’ve been following you as well as other anti-Global Warming folks. I very much buy into the idea that past history carries a significant weight into the determination of what is to come. I’ve also seen the correlations presented by the Grand Solar Minimum folks that seem to map sunspots to global temperatures. I was pretty much convinced that CO2 was not linked to global warming in any significant way…
However, prompted by Scott Adams, I got the idea that, given that all other factors are constant, increasing CO2 increases global temperatures. Is that accepted by ALL scientists, Global Warmists and Skeptics alike? That is Scott Adams’ avowed belief.

    • Gator says:

Who says that all other factors are constant? Oh, right! It’s those “settled science” whackos. Never mind.

    • tonyheller says:

In a completely static system, increasing CO2 would increase temperature by a small amount, due to more greenhouse molecules emitting LW radiation. That is what radiative transfer models show above the knee of the curve, which is about 20-30 PPM CO2.

It has little to do with greenhouse effect “trapped heat” – because almost all of the LW radiation in the CO2 spectra is already being absorbed.

    • RAH says:

The whole premise of the alarmists is that while it is not physically possible for CO2 alone to cause the warming they project it is possible for the extra warmth resulting from CO2 to cause the whole system to be knocked out of wack there by causing feedbacks and forceings to result in catastrophic warming.

The corner stone of the that hypothesis is that there will be a permanent hot spot or hot spots in the upper troposphere over the tropical regions. No such thing has been found and thus the whole hypothesis has been falsified. The fact that they keep up the alarmism despite of this failure in the models they use to justify their hypothesis kind of says it all.

      • Gerald Machnee says:

The alarmists also talk about “feedbacks”, which is one of the things they say will significantly increase warming. they suggest because of warming air can hold more water vapor which will cause warming. The real facts are that water vapor has not increased in amount, but if it does it can also have a negative feedback by increasing cloud amount and reflecting solar radiation. In addition, no feedbacks have been measured so we see that the temperatures are running much below forecasts by IPCC.

        • RAH says:

The real kicker is that nowhere in the record can they point to a time when what they have said will happen did even though there have been several times that the CO2 level has been higher than it is now.

    • Robert Austin says:

That kind of question is the kind used by warmist advocates to arrive at their “97% of scientists” crap. The question has never been “do you believe that increasing CO2 concentration in the earth’s atmosphere causes an increase in the global temperature (whatever that means). The real question is whether the alleged change in global temperature due to increased CO2 concentration even detectable and measurable and is the change benign or net harmful. So a proper poll question to scientists would be to ask what they believe the most likely value of the TCR (transient climate response and the ECR (equilibrium climate response).

      • Jack Miller says:

I have yet to find anyone that can answer that question, if the science is settled then the CAGW crowd should be able to tell us specifically what that value is.

    • Robertv says:

As long as there is permanent ice at the poles Earth is in an cold period called an ice age. Normal for Earth is much warmer. Normal for the last 3 million years is much colder. So what normal do you prefer? What would life on Earth prefer?
Remember they changed Global Warming in Climate Change for a reason.

    • Disillusioned says:

      CO2 follows temperature.

    • Louis Hooffstetter says:

Under tightly controlled laboratory conditions, you would see the effects shown in the graph below. But in the real world where the oceans, clouds, air currents, biosphere, etc., etc., etc., not so much.

      • Louis Hooffstetter says:

        Here you go.

        • Jason Calley says:

Hey Louis! Correct me if I am wrong, but I think the chart you posted is for an atmosphere where CO2 is the only greenhouse gas working in the pertinent infrared wave lengths. In the real world water vapor is already saturating most of that part of the spectrum, so the CO2 effect would be even less than the chart shows. Also the vast amount of heat transferred by convection and phase change of water and we are left with almost no effect at from CO2.

          • Phil. says:

In the real world water vapor is already saturating most of that part of the spectrum, so the CO2 effect would be even less than the chart shows.

            Not true.

          • spike55 says:

            YES, TRUE

Do you have ANY empiric; science that shows CO2 causes warming in our H2O , gravity determined atmosphere?

            Waiting. !!

        • Phil. says:

This shows a pure log relationship, however as the concentration of CO2 goes up there will be a transition to a square root dependence will take over. See curve of growth.

          • spike55 says:

            RUBBISH !!

There is NO DEPENDANCY of temperature on CO2 in our gravity and H2O ruled atmosphere.

This is a scientifically unsupportable myth.

Produce some empirical evidence if you have anything to counter this fact that CO2 warming has never been observed anywhere in the atmosphere of this planet or any other.

    • GCsquared says:

” increasing CO2 increases global temperatures” is true in principle. But so is the statement that carrying a spare tire in your car reduces your gas mileage, because of the extra weight that has to be hauled around. But you’d be an idiot to leave your spare behind expecting to save the earth from a climate catastrophe by reducing your carbon footprint.

  2. Philip DiMarzio says:

So did you move from CO to AZ or just visiting for an extended period?

  3. frederik wisse says:

Water and consequently water vapour plus radiation from the sun is determining earth temperatures .Both are not taxable so governments are looking for other resources to create income , carbondioxide is one of them and the nice thing is it will hit all economic activities and consequently the rich , active parts of our society . The UN is trying to create money for nothing by endeavouring to put western society into slavery through the socalled Paris treaty based upon scientific idioacy .

  4. Pathway says:

    Wonderful photos.

  5. gregole says:

Bird is gorgeous. Hope it stays away from the wind turbines.

  6. Joel O'Bryan says:

Welcome to Arizona and the Sonoran Desert.
We have rain coming again Sunday … if you are still here.

  7. Disillusioned says:

    These are excellent!

    Thank you Tony!

  8. Griff says:

Wow! another great set of pictures…

I have no idea what bird that is… it would be a Buzzard in the UK!

  9. RAH says:

A bit OT but the solar disk has been spotless for several days again. We’re approaching the minimum projected by the SILS.

  10. MGJ says:

Some of those birds are armed with dangerous claws and talons which they use to oppress other creatures with. These pictures must be banned, I’m triggered!

    Now where’s my safe space…?

    (Lovely pictures, BTW).

How many Twitter users identify as field mice and other raptor prey?

Must be some sizable percentage to trigger the trigger warning trigger.

    Buncha triflin’ triggereds.
