Update : Anthony Watts spoke with Ryan Maue, and Ryan said he was just trolling Michael Mann and didn’t really believe what he was saying. Yet these tweets don’t show any indication of sarcasm and were retweeted by Greta Thunberg – and seen by at least three million people. Anthony asked him to delete his tweets, and Ryan has not done that. I hid this post for a few hours to give Ryan a chance to try to set the record straight, but he hasn’t done anything.
No one seems to know what the real story is with this. Bizarre .. to say the least.
I never expected this from Ryan PhD. Even HH Lamb said that global cooling would and has induced wild jetstream swings. I would have thought he knew this.
Climate change can mean both hot and cold so I do wonder if Maue is being sarcastic. If not, he has losed his marbles.

What would be nice is to show the real data charts etc. showing just the opposite – we had a very wet and cold late spring to early summer out in Cali – a humongous snow pack that led to skiing past the 4th of July AND early season snows already begun in September this late summer to early fall.
Tony, the REAL data provided to the public – like you have been instrumental in – would make for a very timely post. Weather usually does NOT cause fires – unless they are lightning-initiated but PEOPLE do. Might there be an agenda at play?

Exactly – this is what I thought was common knowledge.
Meridional jetstream flow is caused by low sunspot activity and cooler tropical ozone layer. At least this is what was being taught years ago. The whole point was that in periods of high solar activity ozone would heat up and keep the differential in the jetstream below it from penetrating into lower latitudes. In periods of high solar activity the jetstream has a zonal flow and does not depart far from the higher latitudes. During periods of low solar activity the ozone layer would cool which would allow the jetstream to penetrate further south – creating Rossby waves.
But I guess this was circa 1975 physics – maybe they don’t think that response happens anymore? It seems to line up with observations. I dunno. You would think a meteorologist would know about the association.

Saying that the evidence has become overwhelming in 2 years sounds like trolling to me. At least, no moderately rational person could honestly believe that … when it takes a minimum of 30 years to even see a climate trend.
That said, Socialists do prefer to play the man, not the issue. If they have come for Ryan they can only intend to destroy him … because that’s what they know how to do. Public humiliation is usually the first step, part of the show trial process.
When I see a politician do a non sequitur flip, I tend to wonder what skeletons might be in their closet. We already know meteorologists and climate scientists are under pressure to conform to AGW dogma. Besides peer review blackballing, I wonder what lengths the Borg would go…
