In the Soviet union there were a scientist called Trofim Lysenko. He used the secret police in order to get consensus.
I knew a young Polish geneticist in the 1970s. His institute had rejected Lysenko’s theories (officially), but the senior people could not forget what they had been taught. He had to be very careful what he said, ‘for fear of making the boss angry’. It will take decades to undo the current AGW-hysteria, even if there was an official retraction today.

No matter which side of the covid issue a person is on, that person can find the science to support his stance. I believe most people are capable of making their own decisions about their health no matter what they believe. Is covid real? There is no evidence to suggest that it is. Is it fake? There is no evidence to suggest that, either.
If people listen to MSM long enough, they can get to the point that they believe that they have covid. This virus has cured all other causes of death, even though people still die from those causes. This virus can tell time and can tell location. It there is a protest going on, this virus can tell what the protest is about It can tell the difference between a rally and a protest.
People still die from heart disease and cancer. They still die from suicides and motor vehicle accidents. People die of old age. Yet if they have a covid diagnosis, their deaths will be listed as covid deaths and not as the real reason they died.
Why is it so important that people have to be afraid? The MSM and the politicians are propagating the fear. Why? Seven months into this thing and nobody can answer “Why?”.

Democrats — well, at least most of the Democrats I’ve ever known — are amazingly ignorant of science. They can lecture at length about French literature, but they generally don’t even know how to give you a basic explanation of how a light bulb works. Instead, for matters of science, they rely on academic scientists, who are obviously overwhelmingly left-wing, to bolster their idiotic and relentless assertions about “science”. In fact, what Democrats are talking about is not actually science at all, but an ersatz pseudo-scientific cult that I refer to as “scienceism”. It’s more of a religion than it is science, as I think anyone who has any background in real science understands full well. I mean, the idea that 0.04% CO2 in the atmosphere can destroy a 5 billion year-old planet is not science. It’s a doomsday religious/political cult.

You forgot to add that the Leftist researchers are incapable of following the scientific method and specifically exclude data which does not accord with their delusional ideas, or they simply make up or tamper with the data to produce the desired result.
I am coming to the conclusion that we need a political filter on all science as that from Leftists is overwhelmingly shown to be false and completely unreliable as it is their ideology that is being pushed, rather than the scientific method.

I agree from first hand experience, however I’m not talking merely of demonrats, I’m speaking of “science” itself. It has more dogma than the Roman Catholic Church. Which I can criticize because I was raised as one.
The halls of science and academia are so beholden to accepted dogma that it would make the Pope and Cardinals in the Inquisition envious of their absolute power! That is to say even before this Climate Catastrophe Cult came to prominence.
If you challenged the accepted dogma, you were marginalized, defunded, called a quack, and otherwise cancelled.
So what you are seeing now, is nothing new to academia, or the halls of science. Just now that it’s politicized by the lame stream media, and Marxists who lust for power it’s worse.
This adherence to science dogma was already powerfully active way before this climate nonsense took hold, so the innumerable folks within that system who know better regards nonsense CO2/greenhouse theory – know to stay quiet lest they’ll be canceled, and loose their careers and reputations.
A quick example – I worked on a privately funded R&D project for a decade, over a decade ago. We did some diligence on a topic I’ll not mention because I do not wish to argue with pinheads – and got results with replications of previous examples of these phenomenon and verified and cross checked and tried to poke holes in our results – and were confident we had the results.
These results however, fly in the face of a pretty fundamental tenet of the science dogma – and every time we sought funding to proceed further, invariably a so called “science referee” would be brought in to examine our experiments and results.
A dozen times – these referees would not even bother to consider our results – because of their dogma adherence. (“I know it’s impossible, so I will not bother to look at it” was the refrain)
Finally we found an honest one – who told me in a private correspondence – ” I believe you have genuine results that are not measuring errors, and these results are indeed profound, however I cannot stick my neck out, lest it be chopped off for supporting your amazing results – sorry but my community will not accept this, no matter how much data and replication you have at this time”
At least he was honest – the dogmatic nature of the halls of science is as a church of willfully blind followers who know what happens if you challenge orthodoxy.

In that is a particularly attention-grabbing graph which I have shown here. It relates to a postmortem review of death certificates in Sweden indicating that, of the 5000+ deaths attributed to COVID-19, around 872 died directly as a result of COVID-19 and the rest died with it.
