DARPA Bat Virus Proposal From 2018

On March 24. 2018, this proposal was sent to DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) requesting $14 million to study “the Threat of Bat-borne coronaviruses.”

In 2017 under Trump, HHS adopted a funding mechanism for studying Gain of Function research.

The Obama administration had previously placed a pause on funding bat virus Gain of Function research.

“Specifically, the funding pause will apply to gain-of-function research projects that may be reasonably anticipated to confer attributes to influenza, MERS, or SARS viruses such that the virus would have enhanced pathogenicity and/or transmissibility in mammals via the respiratory route.”
