To dearieme: “it’s worse than we thought!!” Even if nobody could write it, we have the gift of Fred Douglass, a fine example of American Exceptualism and privilege (yeah, I said it! What other nation in 19th century allows Fred Douglass to learn to read and write?). We are tossing that gift into a landfill, because nobody seems to be able TO EVEN READ IT!!

Sounds like hate speech to me.
A couple years ago at Jo Nova’s site I tried to post a quote from Winston Churchill’s two volume set, ‘River War’ and she could not allow it to be posted because of the laws in Australia governing “hate speech”. She was very apologetic about it and couldn’t believe she couldn’t post a Churchill quote.
Here is the forbidden passage I quoted:
“How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. BTW, that was published by Churchill when he was 26 years old.
I suggest she was just being polite not wanting that particular quote published on her site. There is no law in Australia that would have prevented it being posted. It’s the simplest of questions a person can pose to the censorship authorities: Why not show me what the problem is, dissect its faults for all to see, which should result in the offender ultimately self-censoring out of pure shame. When you hide the problem, then I will never know what the problem is nor will I be able to teach others about it or recognize a future instance of it.
