In the 1880s, the US received almost three hurricane strikes per year.
As of February 2011, no hurricane has hit the the US for almost three years. So next time some mental midget tells you that the climate is getting more extreme, you might suggest that they lay of the shrooms.
People were going off the deep end with all the hurricanes in 2004 and 2005. As usual, when someone checks the records, there is nothing new under the sun.
That’s because the memory of alarmists is selective, or their response is: “back then it wasn’t being caused by CO2.. it is now”. I guess back then the Moon was being illuminated by the Sun.. and now it is light bulbs on Earth.
Our brains are wired to forget pain, unpleasant, etc…
.. so it’s easy to fool people with that extreme weather crap
How can the 10-yr running mean go all the way up to 2010? Shouldn’t it terminate at 2005?

Ah, looks like it’s lagging, as the first 10 years don’t have the mean shown. I’m just so used to a centered mean, which I personally think is the best representation. 🙂

If you have been “Running Mean” for ten years you really need to seek professional help!
Any way it is a best guess historical “Extrapolation” of what might have been in the long distant past. What we now consider Hurricanes may have been just Summer storms one hundred years ago unless they were severe!
