Global warming and the resultant melting of parts of the Arctic icecap have opened a new world of travel — a 900-mile, 32-day luxury cruise with fares starting at $20,000.
Crystal Cruises, one of the world’s top-rated cruise lines, has announced that one of its ships, the Crystal Serenety, will traverse the fabled Northwest Passage on this Pacific-to-Atlantic voyage, beginning from Seward, Alaska, through the north part of mainland Canada and the Arctic Ocean to New York City.

Other than the 300 miles of ice they have to traverse, what could possibly go wrong?
Who gets eaten first when the ship becomes encased in ice…the crew, the rich, or the climate alarmists.
I know who the rich and the crew are voting for.
I don’t trust them. It looks like the bears are behind this thing …
I wonder if they are like the other idiots in the sail boat who had to be rescued this summer because they did not have guns and were being stalked by a Poley Bear.
Funny how polar bears are warm, cuddly and cute…until they want to hunt you down and eat you, instead of even cuter baby seals.
The Bambi Syndrome
This is closer to what a real deer is like. link Heck a couple got killed by their sheep here in North Carolina.
Deer are vicious, especially males during the autumnal rutting season. Those hard, sharp, bony protuberances on their heads are NOT decorations. Nor are their rather hard, sharp feet.
The horns on a goat are not for show, same goes for rams. Let’s not even get into cattle and pigs. Heck, even chickens, especially roosters can cause damage to the unwary and careless.
Animals ARE NOT ‘safe’.
Good story Gail. Reminds me of some of my past ideas… But I’m not fond of venison, so luckily that one never came to mind…
I have killed two deer in my time. One when I was 14 while hunting with my Dad ( an 8 pointer who is staring at me as we speak), and the other with the combination of the nose of a F250 and my 9mm….
After reading that story, I will treat the next one I hopefully never hit, like an armed intruder and shoot it from cover whether it’s still breathing or not… lol
Mat,
I call my Diesel pick-up Deer-slayer because of all the deer she has taken out. You do not swerve to miss a deer when hauling 4,000 to 8,000 pounds behind you. Unfortunately I am on the road at dusk and dawn quite often and see deer all the time.
Gail,
Olaf brought up an interesting global warming metrics problem that I thought could use your input.

Willis from WUWT wrote about this cruise back in August.
Thanks for reminding us. I remember laughing about this:
Willis can do heavy lifting but he’s equally good at lighthearted stuff …
“Part of the reason that the Northwest Passage captured so many imaginations for many centuries, according to Bloomberg Businessweek, was that it was choked with ice and impossible to navigate. But climate change has set off a scramble to control the now-accessible shipping routes and mineral rights.
The Crystal Serenity, Bloomberg says, is simply following the wake of the freighters that are already plying the Arctic.”
Since it takes place in 2016, surely it will be ice-free by then.
one freighter did it, so now it’s “open”. yeah. sure.
oh yeah, it was also a specially reinforced ice waters freighter used up in the Baltic and other icy seas carrying bulk freight (coal). So it was a battering ram of a ship. I’d like to see regular freight boats try that.
A freighter went thru in 2013.The 225 meter long Nordic Orion, a panamax-sized ship, has a strengthened hull to cope with floating ice. It was classified “high risk”. Cruise liners are another story. Apparently nobody else wanted to try it.

From the Crystal Cruises website FAQ:
“3. Isn’t the Northwest Passage too full of ice to transit?
Crystal Serenity plans to transit during the period of when ice concentration is minimal. The typical conditions along the planned route during the Arctic summer are substantially free of ice. With these extremely low ice concentrations, keeping the ship well clear of ice is entirely feasible.
In addition, an escort vessel will accompany Crystal Serenity. The escort vessel will have ice breaking capabilities and would be able to assist in the extremely unlikely event that the ice concentration becomes a challenge for Crystal Serenity. Further, we will be working very closely with the Canadian Ice Services to monitor ice conditions to ensure they remain safe for transit. ”
So they’re taking an ice-breaker along with them.

“Canadian Ice Services”. The deal, and quite possibly the ship, is sealed with a CIS.
The trip was scheduled to complete on Sept, 17th. There must be a video surely?

Cripes, I could go on one of those commercial Antarctic expeditions and commune with wild penguins for less than that.
What’s old is new again, and still stupid.
“A discovery made deep beneath the Arctic’s icy waters has solved a mystery that has persisted for over a century: what happened to the fabled HMS Erebus, a ship that disappeared during an expedition in 1845?
On Thursday, the mystery was solved, with experts confirming that a shipwreck found last month in the Arctic was in fact the wreckage of the Victorian-era vessel…
The HMS Erebus — with captain Sir John Franklin — had set out with another ship in the mid 19th century searching for the Northwest Passage.
Both, however, vanished without a trace…
Until Thursday, it was never clear what happened to the vessel. The HMS Terror, its companion ship, has still not been located, the BBC reported.”

Never board a vessel named “Terror”, unless it is in an amusement park.
When I heard it on the news, I assumed it was “HMS Terra”, clearly not.
Around the turn of the century there was a Cruises named “HMS Terrible”, which the crew nicknamed “HMS Horrible”.
No money back guarantee if they can’t get through?
of course not
That would be the least of my worries…. Titanic comes to mind…
I gotta get off my duff and bid for the Tim Hortons franchise along the route.
” following the route that Norwegian explorer Roald Amundson discovered some 100 years ago”
hmmm.. 100 years ago…. So CO2 can apparently time travel as well….
What a magical thing this molecule is. Causes heat to sink to depths of the ocean, while all other heated molecules must rise, traps heat that the laws of thermal dynamics say it can’t, makes green stuff greener, and now this…
Who would of thunk it… I mean besides crisis mongering politicians (failed or otherwise) and grant funded “climatologist”….
What would we ever do without them. Besides of course keeping our money and freedoms….
CO2 is the magic gas from Unicorn Farts.
This is the REAL reason that GOOD CO2 is now in such short supply and why Mankind is to blame. However the Club of Rome does not want people to realize that the elite have been putting them in jeopardy due to their taste for this. They are worried the Nouveau Riche who are not part of the Club, will start demanding a share and drive the prices up.

😉
please, oh please, oh PUH-LEEEZE do this! I can’t wait to see the Russian ice breakers moving in to take off the passengers as the ship is crushed in the ice. Bhwa ha ha ha ha.
I’ll have to stock in extra popcorn and Valu-Rite Vodka for this one. Pay per view perhaps??
I wonder if Al Gore owns stock in the company.
Well by looks of it Titanic 2 is on the horizon stupid idiots still it be funny they get stuck and no ice breaker be able to get them out it be so embarrassing it collapse the company who runs these boats they be bank rupt beyond help lol let the stupid lot sail them up there see how far they get just like the stupid rowers last year try to do the same thing funny
