  1. And will she be reporting extreme minimums too?

  2. Bob Greene says:

Richmond, for the past two days has had highs of 84 and 75 and the average is about 71°F. Following her logic and expertise I should have worried about the extreme heat and obvious climatic shift instead of wandering off to some country roads with the top down.

  3. Tibboburra, roughly where the red dot on the map is shown on the map, has always been the hottest place in New South Wales, and regularly tops the heat record. So there is nothing unusual there. October this year in Sydney had some very cool days too, They won’t mention these. The Warmistas are so desperate these days for vindication, that even warm days of 27 degrees C are reported as ‘hot’, to get the public’s attention.
Significantly, the Natiional Party is now calling for an investigation into BOM’s adjustments to temperature and the historic record. With any luck it will occur and the shit will really hit the fan!

  4. Brian G Valentine says:

Heidi plays the same role to the NGO “Climate Central” that Brenda Ekwurzel plays to the NGO Union of Concerned Scientists. A few years ago Brenda was summarily trashed (along with Gavin Schmidt) in a public debate against Richard Lindzen. After that debacle very little was to be heard from Brenda any more. With any luck the same will happen with Heidi.

This woman is quite dim, no? I’ve been monitoring temperature reports here in Brisbane at the beginning of our summer. The online running temperature (1/2 hr readings) report is on any given day of the past 2 weeks up to 2C cooler than what is being reported in the local fish and chips wrapper and up to 3C cooler than what is being forecast (24Hr)

  6. Dave N says:

A single data point means “climate change”, except when it’s cold: first rate sciency stuff.

  7. Andy Oz says:

Does she get paid for this rubbish?
If so it’s under false pretences.
“Australia is hot!” No Sh!t Sherlock.
That’s like saying “It doesn’t rain much in the Sahara!”

  8. Rosco says:

In 1968 I sat examinations in early November in temperatures in excess of 41 C in Brisbane.

In 1980 I was an Environmental Health Officer water sampling south of Brisbane in excess of 40 degree C temperatures. I was also sampling swimming pools and the temperature of the pool water reached 35 degrees C.

These temperatures are slightly higher than normal in Brisbane – Brisbane is a coastal city after all.

I know recent temperatures are not as extreme as these blasts from the past.

  9. Andy DC says:

She conveniently forgot about the record snows a few weeks ago.

  10. Justa Joe says:

Shouldn’t a few warmist trolls chime in with the old “weather isn’t climate” admonition?

  11. Bruce of Newcastle says:

Anyone who bothered to look at BoM’s surface pressure charts will have seen a series of high pressure systems getting stuck in the Tasman Sea one after the other all last week – which is a well known blocking pattern. Furthermore the position of the two jet streams have been squeezing the highs into the same location.

Its been hot because air masses haven’t been able to progress east, so they heat up over the continent. If Heidi can invent a reason that CO2 does this I’d be entertained. Much more likely to be a mix of solar influence on Rossby sinuousity and the SOI influencing the latitude of high pressure systems crossing the continent.

Contour maps are drawn using techniques derived from convention. The east-west linearity caught my eye. It would be nice to see the data point locations and density of sample across Oz. In addition, is this a common pattern?
I have seen structural geologists and geophysicists take a mapped data set, interpret them wholly in keeping with the values given, and come up with completely different final contour maps.

The closest stations to that area are; Moomba which recorded 43.1°C (109.6°C). Its hottest October day is 43.5°C set in 1988. (different station) and 2013. http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/averages/tables/cw_017096_All.shtml
Tibooburra which recorded 41.6°C and 42.4deg;C in 1968. It can get very hot in spring there like in 1944. Four days in a row above 111°F.
    http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/139564370?searchTerm=tibooburra%20temperature&searchLimits=

The Tibooburra station was opened in 1886 but there is no data before 1910. The hottest year in the 20th century after this is 1939 which shows how much hotter it has been. Compare the data for Jan 1939 and 2013. The means for this month are the same but look at the data not included and missing from 1939? Look at the data missing or not counted in Nov of 1944. This is why these records are meaningless.

My home town had 3 days in a row of equalling the August record of -2.3°C before breaking it with -3.1°C, this year (and within a degree of the coldest winter day). There was widespread frost damage in SE Australia so I’m guessing a less bias analysis would have had the headlines about Australia’s coldest day ever earlier in the year.
