The Tipping Point Was Actually 286.2 PPM CO2

Melting glacial ice and ice sheets have driven seas to levels unmatched in the past 6,000 years, says a study out this week in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Things began to go haywire about 150 years ago, the same time humanity began to pump greenhouse gases into the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels.

Study: Recent sea level rise is highest in 6,000 years

I marked the tipping point below in red, at 286.2 ppm – when “things went haywire

Ever since that tipping point was reached when things went haywire, the tide gauge at Manhattan has been showing a steady sea level rise of 2.85 mm / year.

During that same time period, sea level at Stockholm has been falling about 4 mm/ year -apparently because of the crazy haywire effects of Mann-made CO2.

Sea level went completely nuts 15,000 years ago – when Clovis Man SUV’s pushed CO2 up to 280 PPM

I want to thank the National Academy of Sciences for helping to turn the world into a bunch of scientific imbeciles.

  1. Christian says:

Stockholm is a bad example of global sea levels as there is significant ‘glacial rebound’ in the Gulf of Bothnia, most obvious at the northern end. Otherwise agree sea level rise is a non-issue.

  2. David A says:

Climate scientist learned from Mann how to ignore all historic science and just rewrite the books, with out so much as a “how do you do” to the efforts of past scientist, no need to even refer to them, or to historic papers, just rewrite the past, and ignore the work of real scientist.
The climate scientist claims….”Melting glacial ice and ice sheets have driven seas to levels unmatched in the past 6,000 years,”

HH Lamb, a well know scientist studying SL in the 1980s summarized the understanding on the subject, in his book “Climate, History And The Modern World”.
“The most rapid phases [of sea level rise] were between 8000 and 5000 BC, and that the rise of general water level was effectively over by about 2000 BC, when it may have stood a metre or two higher than today.”

Thirty years later, sea levels were still one to two meters higher then today 4000 years ago.

    Hi Steve,
You’ve just proven “Extreme Global Sea Level Weirding” no doubt caused be “Climate Disruption.”

#Alarmists (especially all those beach side billionaires in Miami) will lose their minds when they read this.

“In reading The History of Nations, we find that, like individuals, they have their whims and their peculiarities, their seasons of excitement and recklessness, when they care not what they do. We find that whole communities suddenly fix their minds upon one object and go mad in its pursuit; that millions of people become simultaneously impressed with one delusion, and run after it, till their attention is caught by some new folly more captivating than the first.”

What utter bovine feces. On top of that the geologic data actually says the sea levels are dropping.

Mid to late Holocene sea-level reconstruction of Southeast Vietnam using beachrock and beach-ridge deposits

….backshore deposits along the tectonically stable south-eastern Vietnamese coast document Holocene sea level changes…..reconstructed for the last 8000 years….The rates of sea-level rise decreased sharply after the rapid early Holocene rise and stabilized at a rate of 4.5 mm/year between 8.0 and 6.9 ka. Southeast Vietnam beachrocks reveal that the mid-Holocene sea-level highstand slightly above + 1.4 m was reached between 6.7 and 5.0 ka, with a peak value close to + 1.5 m around 6.0 ka….

So the sea levels have DROPPED by + 1.4 meters in the the past 6,000 years.

Then there is the independent check using glaciers.
The paper, Temperature and precipitation history of the Arctic> says: “Solar energy reached a summer maximum (9% higher than at present) ~11 ka ago and has been decreasing since then, primarily in response to the precession of the equinoxes. The extra energy elevated early Holocene summer temperatures throughout the Arctic 1-3°C above 20th century averages, enough to completely melt many small glaciers throughout the Arctic, although the Greenland Ice Sheet was only slightly smaller than at present.”

Another, more recent study in Norway agrees:

A new approach for reconstructing glacier variability based on lake sediments recording input from more than one glacier January 2012
Kristian Vasskoga Øyvind Paaschec, Atle Nesjea, John F. Boyled, H.J.B. Birks

…. A multi-proxy numerical analysis demonstrates that it is possible to distinguish a glacier component in the ~ 8000-yr-long record, based on distinct changes in grain size, geochemistry, and magnetic composition…. This signal is …independently tested through a mineral magnetic provenance analysis of catchment samples. Minimum glacier input is indicated between 6700–5700 cal yr BP, probably reflecting a situation when most glaciers in the catchment had melted away, whereas the highest glacier activity is observed around 600 and 200 cal yr BP. During the local Neoglacial interval (~ 4200 cal yr BP until present), five individual periods of significantly reduced glacier extent are identified at ~ 3400, 3000–2700, 2100–2000, 1700–1500, and ~ 900 cal yr BP….

The authors of these papers simply state that most small glaciers likely didn’t exist 6,000 years ago, but the highest period of the glacial increase has been in the past 600 years. This is hardly surprising with ~9% less solar energy.

Yep, globally all the cruise companies, shipping crews & owners, port authorities, ferrymen, boatbuilders & shipbuilders, navies, fishermen & fisherwomen, quayside businesses, and the beach-front & seaside cities and towns property owners have noticed the sudden and relentless rise in sea-level.

    Well, they have, haven’t they?

  7. Eric Simpson says:

In order to turn back those rising sea levels I think what Europe needs is a good old dose of acute energy shortages: Putin Warns Europe Russia to Cut Gas If Ukraine Steals Supplies.

    http://www.businessweek.com/news/2014-10-16/putin-warns-europe-russia-to-cut-gas-if-ukraine-steals-supplies

If you’re not in Europe you can lol about that. Of course if Europe had any self respect they’d say “screw you Russia” and stop importing the gas themselves instead of leaving themselves at Russia’s mercy. (And btw, with our excess natural gas, we should be able to provide much of the lost gas to Europe.) But no, Europe is not man enough to do that.

Also, in the UK, Owen Paterson, a past Secretary of State for Environment, is railing against the UK’s unilateral 2008 “Climate Change Act” that is in the process of ravaging the once mighty nation. Soon it seems the UK is going to become little more than a deteriorating outpost for a growing population of radical Islamists: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/energy/11156113/Scrap-the-Climate-Change-Act-to-keep-the-lights-on-says-Owen-Paterson.html

    • emsnews says:

So…you want to export our gas and make prices much higher here? Just so Europe can spit in Putin’s eye for no sane reason?

      • Natural gas is abiogenic and extremely plentiful. If the price is too high, that is because U.S. policy artificially restricts the access to it, in the false belief that it is more scarce than it is. If we don’t use it, it will just end up solidifying as part of the crust and a certain amount of CO2 will eventually make its way to the atmosphere. The energy content will be lost. Insane is just letting it go, and then torturing ourselves trying to find other sources of energy to keep people alive. There are countries with gas reserves, and no drilling whatsoever, because the World Bank and its various partners in those countries conspire to keep the gas in the ground and not develop it. This is a deliberate policy designed to enrich some groups at the expense of others, based on political alliances.

      • Well, sure. I guess I should have said deep terrestrial natural gas.

      • Eric Simpson says:

It’s typically a leftist thing to try to control markets. To benefit who? Production is restrained by the artificial prohibition of exports of the plentiful gas we have. So jobs, and national income, are dramatically cut, and indeed worldwide prices for gas are higher. Nationally, prices would not likely rise because we would produce more. It time to end mercantilian energy policies that appeal only to self-loathing warmists.

Boston sea level, per noaa data, has gone down last four years

    • tom0mason says:

The Brits are stealing Boston’s sea level in reparation for past unpaid taxes and loss of tea. Just ask Prince Charles or one of his plants.
