Climate scientists who make statements about warming at the poles should be required to winter there.

Mr. Goddard, you do not seem to understand. Cold temperatures in Greenland in no way disprove AGW. Actually, it PROVES AGW! Indeed, all extreme weather is proof of AGW! NOTHING can disprove AGW! I know, because Kevin Trenbirth and the IPCC say so. So there.

  2. Andy Weiss says:

That is absolutely mind boggling cold!!

  3. Latitude says:

    I can’t imagine +121 F…
    …much less -121 F

    • I once drove through Needles, CA at 122F with no air conditioning. I poured water on my shirt and stayed nice and cool. -121F would probably kill you in a matter of a few minutes.

      • Mike Davis says:

        If that long!
I spent many bays in temperatures near 120F. You get used to it but you tend to not do a lot during the warmest time of day. I did a lot of work in the early morning when it was only 102. It tends to feel warm over 105F!

  4. suyts says:

Indeed, I believe that anyone that thinks global warming would be a bad thing, should spend some time by the arctic.

    • Chris F says:

I’m not feeling as generous. Make them stay in the Arctic until the Summer Solstice then immediately put them on a plane down to Antarctica until the Winter Solstice. Repeat for a few years until they cry uncle.

      • suyts says:

lol, 2 days would be the max I’d give most of them. Or how ever long it took these dolts to realize the unforgiving and relentless cold will be with them for an uninterrupted period of time, (some are obviously pretty slow) then they would realize that if we could make the world warmer, we should.

  5. suyts says:

The coldest I’ve ever been in, -78 F. I haven’t a clue as to the windchill, it didn’t seem to matter once it got colder than -60.

    • Lance says:

Well, you have me beat, and I did time in Eureka, NWT in 79-80!
In feb 79, they set the N.A. record for a mean temp of -47.9C (i arrived in march thankfully).
If I recall, the coldest I experienced up there was -45 to -53C range, would have to check Env. Canada website to see what the coldest day was when i was up there.

      HOWEVER, cold is cold…
I’ll take a warmer earth, but the Sun is not co-operating…

    • MikeTheDenier says:

During my days as a road warrior I had the priviledge of going to Regina, Saskatchewan where the high for the day was a nice cool -35F. I NEVER want to experience that warmcold again.

    • PhilJourdan says:

-25 for me. But it was not too bad as I was prepared. Also, I have been in Needles, so 120+ is not unusual (we visit relatives in the California Desert each year).

  6. Paul H says:

Over at Okhotsk, the situation with the ships stuck in the frozen sea gets more worrying.

There is a real possibility that the rescue attempt could fail.

    • Paul H says:

But you won’t find news of this on the BBC.

Their last report was 10 days ago. It mentioned the sailors being surprised by the rapid freeze up, so I guess the Warmist Mafia quickly reasserted control.

      • Mike Davis says:

Those ships were designed to withstand this type of weather. They just can not work canning sea food due to the ice!

      • Mike Davis says:

Probably all be out by the middle of next week if not sooner. If it was serious they would have sent in their larger ice breakers.

  7. ES says:

-49C in Watson Lake YK this AM.

  8. It's always Marcia, Marcia says:

Does global warming put cold cash in her purse?

  9. R. de Haan says:

    Total nuts:
The sun rises two days early in Greenland, sparking fears that climate change is accelerating
    http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2656768/posts

    • Mike Davis says:

Global warming it causing the sun to come up earlier. I would be worried if the sun came up two days earlier here. If I was expecting the sun to rise tomorrow which is Saturday and I woke to find it had come up on Thursday I would be Miffed to say the least.
That situation could get worse than Ground Hog Day!

    • Mike Davis says:

There is also the “False” Sunrise and double sunset like you see over the ocean sometimes. I remember in 2004 I was traveling East and watched the False sunrise over the plains in Kansas. It is an optical illusion created by atmosphere conditions.

    • Anything is possible says:

Don’t know where to start with this one…

Firstly, light always “creeps over the horizon”, even at the Winter Solstice. Haven’t these clowns ever heard of Civil Twilight?

      http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/BGJN/2010/12/21/DailyHistory.html?req_city=NA&req_state=NA&req_statename=NA

Secondly, the astronomical definition of sunrise is the moment the limb of the Sun appears over the theoretical horizon, so local topography has no effect whatsoever.

Thirdly, if the Sun did actually appear to be above the horizon on January 11th. (rather than “light merely creeping over the horizon”) then, as Mike Davis said, it was an optical illusion (mirage) caused by atmospheric refraction. Nothing else it could have been since the Sun was below the theoretical horizon at the time.
