Climate change: Dogs of law are off the leash

PARIS — From being a marginal and even mocked issue, climate-change litigation is fast emerging as a new frontier of law where some believe hundreds of billions of dollars are at stake.
Compensation for losses inflicted by man-made global warming would be jaw-dropping, a payout that would make tobacco and asbestos damages look like pocket money.
Imagine: a country or an individual could get redress for a drought that destroyed farmland, for floods and storms that created an army of refugees, for rising seas that wiped a small island state off the map.
In the past three years, the number of climate-related lawsuits has ballooned, filling the void of political efforts in tackling greenhouse-gas emissions.
Eyeing the money-spinning potential, some major commercial law firms now place climate-change litigation in their Internet shop window.
Seminars on climate law are often thickly attended by corporations that could be in the firing line — and by the companies that insure them.
But legal experts sound a note of caution, warning that this is a new and mist-shrouded area of justice.
Many obstacles lie ahead before a Western court awards a cent in climate damages and even more before the award is upheld on appeal.
“There’s a large number of entrepreneurial lawyers and NGOs who are hunting around for a way to gain leverage on the climate problem,” said David Victor, director of the Laboratory on International Law and Regulation at the University of California at San Diego.
“The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyer.”

But legal experts sound a note of caution, warning that this is a new and mist-shrouded area of justice.
That describes the entire Climate situation. Climatology is a new and Mist Shrouded area of study!
The worst US hurricane was 76 years ago, worst tornado 86 years ago, worst drought 77 years ago, deadliest flood 121 years ago. How can anyone establish in a court of law that these events have gotten worse over the years due to a tiny amount of global warming that may not even be human produced?
If enough lawyers are involved, they may be able to establish that the moon is made of green cheese!

Supposedly the radiative properties of CO2 and it’s rising levels caused by man has been fabricated in order to advance some weird long-term plot for world government, the fall of capitalism and a hike in insurance premiums.
Or perhaps manmade global warming is actually real.
I know which one sounds more realistic.
Or perhaps the effect of increased CO2 is actually much smaller than Hansen believes, Mr. Ying Yang.
It is obvious that yo have been on drugs and hallucinating so long you respect Big Jim and Brother Al and actually believe what they are saying.

Its really quite simple, Cthulu.
There is no conspiracy, there does not need to be.
It is quite simply a coming together of different interest groups who all have something to gain from global warming alarmism. I don’t think you can really deny that there are many, many people and organisations with plenty to gain.
If the side of truth, justice and the American way rests with the global warming crowd, why do they feel compelled to greatly embellish if not spew out and out ridiculous falsehoods to make their case?
Also, they have been around long enough to have a track record for their earlier model solutions and predictions, which has been abysmal. Aside from conspiracy theories, why should anyone believe them at this point?
Whether their failure is a result of incompetence, fraud or insanity (or some combination of all three) is really not important at this time.
Never stand between a lawyer and a bucket of money.
