Arguments against global warming hardly based on fact
Is a new ice age on the way despite evidence of global warming? Interestingly enough, we may have been on the verge of a new ice age, until it was averted by recent warming. So, a little climate change was not a bad thing, but the current data and the projections indicate that we are about to seriously overdo it. Some people dispute the warming. Is this position based on the facts?
Graphs and articles (mainly from the Internet) have been distributed claiming that historical data shows no warming in recent history, and that present annual temperatures are lower than in the past. I was sent some such graphs recently, and recognized the graphs as being plots of Greenland ice core isotope data used to reconstruct annual average temperatures during the last 50,000 years. Anyone can download this climate data from NOAA (U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). It appears that some have, and then severely misinterpreted it.
When I graphed the data myself, I realized that what the climate change denier author of the “cooling” graph was using as “recent” data ended in the 1800s! This is because ice slowly accumulates from snow. Data of this kind gives the values for 95 years before a “zero” year, and the zero year may be 1950, or another starting point. Recent data (not dependent on ice cores) is collected at weather stations such as at Angmagssalik, Greenland. This weather station shows the same pattern of recent, rapid warming since the 1970s that is found in other weather station records.
This is the argument I have heard about Easterbrooks claim that 2010 is the 9,500 hottest year out of the last 10,000, or something like that.
I only use pre-1900 satellite data.
Not reliable. The steam engine that powered them influenced their readings. But I suppose that data can be adjusted.

This is the new strategy: “We’re right about CO2, and the sceptics are wrong, but the effect has been masked because CO2 is saving us from going into the new ice age. So we can keep our climate jobs, thank you.”
Yah. If a temperature hasn’t been adjusted/homogenized and the raw data lost, it doesn’t count?
Thank god Toyota invented the SUV in 1800, else we’d be in an ice age.
But we’ve overdone it with all other car makers jumping on the SUV bandwagon.
If only the soccer mums would stop using SUVs we’d be OK
i just checked with my son who is in his final year at U of Lethbridge and in the Geography dept as his major, and hasn’t had the pleasure of having any classes with him…thankfully, as my son too doesn’t believe this bs. he mentioned another prof of his who was against this whole AGW stuff, but i think he transfered to U of Calgary.
So, evil profiteering coal and oil companies saved the world? Whew, that was a close one!
The AGW scare has done more damage to the environmental movement than anything else since it all began way back in 1970. Now even children are ACC non-believers. They have had enough of the propaganda movie An Inconveinient Truth being jammed down their throats every year in school, with no opposing propaganda movie to balance it. The future of the green movment will suffer with fewer young people ready to join.
