Born again warmist NJ Governor Christie, is getting information from this guy…..
TOMS RIVER — Sea level will likely be a foot higher along New Jersey in 2050, and at the end of the century “Atlantic City’s going to see three feet,” geology professor Ken Miller of Rutgers University said at today’s conference on climate change and coastal hazards.
“What we’re seeing today is unprecedented,” a regional sea level rise rate of 4 millimeters per year after millennia during which sea level was stable or rising at perhaps 1 millimeter a year, said Miller, who studies the shifting coastline with core samples that drill down through thousands of years of sediment.
It’s the fastest increase since the end of the last ice age when melting glaciers raised sea levels by 40 millimeters a year, Miller told a crowd that included more than 200 area high school students.

His comparisons may be off by two orders of magnitude, but that doesn’t mean the Governor shouldn’t listen to him.
“Still, even a foot has huge implications”, Miller stressed. “The U.S. East Coast is seeing a faster rise than other places because the coast is also subsiding, “and it’s not getting slower,” Miller said.
========================================
A foot in New Jersey and three feet in Atlantic City…..I was wondering if he would fess up to this. The East coast is sinking………….
Checked a few rates……
Sea levels are going down faster than the East Coast is sinking, so nothing to worry about.
How could this guy say those things ?

This is the type of stuff that really gets “complaining Jimmy ” all worked up.
It takes some real backup to shake these academic types though.
They’re applying to climate change the successful ways of thinking that were behind the recent economic boom, I mean bust.
According to his research we are still 50 meters below the average sea level for the last hundred million years. If the current Ice Age ends it will take care of the New Jersey Problem.
Maybe if we shipped a few thousand tons of K-Y jelly to Antarctica and inject under the glaciers we could get them to slide into the ocean! It is a cleaner solution than nuking West Antarctica.
Idealist !
Yet another example of hiding the (sea level) decline!
I guess he hasn’t checked graphs lately.
The more I learn about Chris Christy the more I don’t want to see him in the White House—and I didn’t want to see him there in the first place.
Interesting that a site with the name of Real Science ignores basic scientific principles. We are talking climate here, and all long-term climate averages show ~3 mm/yr rise over the past 30 years including the LEGOS site cited here http://www.aviso.oceanobs.com/en/news/ocean-indicators/mean-sea-level/index.html and the Boulder/NOAA site http://sealevel.colorado.edu/
if you if you believe in science and
that the Earth is not flat
that the Earth circles the sun
that evolution of life has and is occurring
that the Earth is 4.55 billion years old
then you must understand that doubling of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, which will happen in this century and entirely due to humans, will cause global warming of 4-9°F. Whether it is 4 or 9 is what we can debate.
You must also understand that this warming must cause a rise of sea level of at least 40 cm (1.2 ft); this should not surprise you since sea level at Atlantic City rose by this much in the 20th century due to sinking (0.6 ft) and global rise (0.6 ft).
The higher estimate of 3 ft includes 0.6 ft of sinking (this is not debatable) and 2.4 ft of global rise. The higher estimate of 2.4 ft is due to new evidence from satellite data which show much greater melting in Greenland and Antarctica than previously thought.
Prediction IS difficult, especially if it involves the future (I think Niels Bohr said that, though it could have been Mark Twain). But for planning purposes, it would be irresponsible not to plan for 3 ft. The Dutch are ready for this as we should be.
That said, I try to express no political opinion on what we could or should do to limit greenhouse gases. I suspect that we will continue to emit carbon dioxide at the present or greater rate and that we must deal with the results.
Ken – your lot is not planning for 3ft. They’re planning for a control economy, less freedom of speech, reeducation camps, the works. If they had been planning for 3ft they’d built the sea wall already.
“you must understand that doubling of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, which will happen in this century and entirely due to humans, will cause global warming of 4-9°F”.
You will be assimilated … resistance is futile …
Ken,
Thanks for your comment. I’ll respond more fully later, but for starters PSMSL shows that Atlantic City sea level has been rising at 1.5 mm/year over the last 15 years, not the 5mm/year you have been quoting for recent rise.
You might also want to check the data from the newest satellite (Envisat) which shows sea level rise less than 1mm/year globally.
