Stupidity at the IPCC is a timeless tradition.
Ages-Old Icecap at North Pole Is Now Liquid, Scientists Find
August 19, 2000
At least for the time being, an ice-free patch of ocean about a mile wide has opened at the very top of the world, something that has presumably never before been seen by humans and is more evidence that global warming may be real and already affecting climate.
The last time scientists can be certain the pole was awash in water was more than 50 million years ago.
”It was totally unexpected,” said Dr. James J. McCarthy, an oceanographer, director of the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard University and the co-leader of a group working for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which is sponsored by the United Nations. The panel is studying the potential environmental and economic consequences of marked climate change.

This is exactly what they predicted in 1972, right before the ice age scare of 1974.
The ice age scare was media generated. Climate Scientists at the time did not support that conclusion, and they had a consensus that warming would take place, not cooling.
Say WOT , aren’t you the one that was crying for data and citations?
What a moron

bull shit….not sure what your back ground is, but i worked for Environment Canada in the late 70’s early 80’s and it was discussed in the class room and was very real…take a hike….
He is a Bulls Hitter alright! 😆
Yeah.
I can remember the coming Ice-Age was all the rage when I was going to school in the early to mid 1970s down this way in Australia and New Zealand aswell.
The other biggy from the era when I was going to school was the Australian Great Barrier Reef was supposed to be non-existent by now. It was supposed to have been devoured by hungry marauding plague of crown of thorns starfish. Well the reef survived that scare. Now the new scare is of course AGW/CC is supposed to get it. LOL.
And 1973-74 was the year the polar bears died

The one thing these folks seem to have in common is that they are easily astonished.
Thanks for your efforts.
The fact is that openings in the ice frequently crop up all over the Arctic and are called polyannas.
