The Guardian claimed today that the ice is getting thinner along the Canadian and Greenland coast, but as usual they have no idea what they are talking about.
There is a lot more 3+ metre thick ice than there was two years ago, when David Barber declared that all the multiyear ice was gone.
That tongue of older ice into the Beaufort sea did disappear as NSIDC predicted, so I guess ice melt in the Beaufort will once again be fast next year. The older thicker ice to the NE really has shot up a lot, that will take some melting !

SEARCH predictions for August are out. You may be interested to know that the ACNFS forecast (Naval Research Laboratory) came out slightly lower than the PIOMAS forecast (Zhang and Lindsay), although not by much. ACFNS predicts a September monthly average of 4.3, PIOMAS predicts a monthly average of 4.4 – given the error margins on these, both have it as about 50:50 for a new minimum, with the Navy being slightly more pessimistic.
