Confusion About Arctic Ice

Experts tell us that all of the multi-year ice is gone, last year left nothing but thin decayed ice, the remaining ice has failed and turned into a slushy, the Arctic is the fastest warming place on Earth, and that it is all going to melt by 2013, or 2012, or 2010, or 2008, or 2000.

Given that these are the smartest people on the planet, why did the amount of ice increase by 50% since last year to the highest level since 2004?

Could it be that these experts actually have absolutely no idea what they are talking about?

I like the Danish data. They need to keep the facts straight, due to their interests in Greenland, and their fishermen in northern waters. Canadian data shows more ice near their northern coast, for the same reasons, even though some of their scientists seem to be Alarmists.

I think there is also a problem with volume calculations. They assume every cake they spot from outer space is the same thickness, and fail to calculate for pressure ridges in the floes. My take is that winter winds have been higher the last two years, and that storm last summer may have piled up ice as well, so the ice that remains is likely to have more pressure ridges. I give my (hopefully humorous) layman observations here: http://sunriseswansong.wordpress.com/2013/08/06/a-laymans-observations-concerning-arctic-sea-ice-volume/

The mainstreamlastfirst captain stated that the ice floe that was about to pull them under was 40 ft thick. They cut the anchor line to avoid swimming.

Nowhere, in any alarmist literature, does it state that there is any 40ft thick ice. The most they are willing to concede is 5 meters (16+ feet) near the Canadian border

I noticed that comment. That is one good thing about these guys. Even while holding what seems to be a unscientific and unfounded belief, they unwittingly transmit tidbits of actual, real-time data that refutes their views.

US tug “Millie Cruz” was off W. Alaska a week ago. It moved round to a point on the N. Alaska coast near North Star Island, and then spent
2 days moving due north at about 1 knot.
