We can’t definitively link today’s heavy rain at Flushing Meadows with climate change, but we do expect more postponement of tennis tournament finals in the future – as atmospheric CO2 increases.
The Arctic is warming disproportionately, and based on climate model estimates it is likely that the US Open will have to be moved to Barrow, Alaska by the year 2050. Or perhaps the Petermann Ice Island, which is four times the size of Manhattan.
I love the article!
Except that droughts, caused by CO2 starvation, have led to the increase of the Sahara and Gobi deserts during the LIA because plants have had less ability to utilize water during CO2 deprivation. The Sahara was green and fertile during the Roman warm period, as shown by archaeology and paleohistory. As CO2 approaches the optimum, about 1000 ppm, plants grow faster and sequester water more efficiently.
Just to add reality in a small dose to the humor.
Barrow, Alaska ? no way. They have only one good camera 😉
