I superimposed the NCEP temperature forecast map on the NHC Igor forecast map. It looks like Igor will be stalled in Baffin Bay for several days, and may produce large amounts of snow in Greenland and the Eastern Canadian Arctic.
The full NHC forecast map :
Just having Greenland in the “cone of uncertainty” was a trip.
It will take another 30 years of satellite data to establish a preliminary view of one oceanic cycle (for “weather” purposes). Comparing cycles to cycles is an apples to oranges thing…
It will be rather bad luck on the Norwegian and Russian circumpolar sailors if Igor behaves as forecast: I believe both boats are due to exit Baffin Bay southwards, within the next few days. Hope they make it safely.
Will be watching to see Igor’s signature on the SST maps over the next week or so.
The circum nav boats will be OK, surprisingly considering the NW passage is closed this year from Amino’s misguided posts
