Riding Against The Wind

We had 45 mph tropical storm force gusts of wind this morning, and I had the interesting experience of riding up into the foothills on grades as steep as 20% – directly into wind. There were a few times when I was barely able to keep the bike moving forwards, standing up, in the lowest gear.

Going across the top of the hogback, I was getting blown around like a rag doll. But coming back was a blast – with a 20 mph wind at my back the entire way.

Afternoon update. There are wind driven fires burning all over the Front Range this afternoon.

I remember those times – back in old californy! The grades around here are not that steep, but the wind sometimes gets going faster. I will take a wind over the grade any day (unless it is a freezing wind).
