People Made Fun Of Nancy Reagan’s Astrologer

Secretary Chu can see the danger coming. And he knows the future.

In Midwest cities such as St. Louis, Mo., one-third of the year — 120 days — will be above 90 degrees.

The real danger with global warming will be the tipping point, he said. As polar ice caps melt, the thaws could expose microbes, which would release carbon dioxide in quantities that would outstrip any reductions humans could make in their carbon-dioxide emissions.

“For the first time in human history, science has shown that we are altering the destiny of our planet. At no other time in the history of science have we been able to say what the future will be 100 years from now.

Soothsayer Chu seems to be unaware that Missouri summer temperatures have been in sharp decline over the last 80 years. He might be a good candidate for the Pravda Principle.

I guess it is better to consult an astrologer than keeping your own baby in a jar…

  2. Mike Davis says:

Chu would not qualify to join the ranks of professional Astrologers, Crystal Gazers, or Soothsayers because they base their predictions on some form of reality and their predictions are a bit more plausible.

“At no other time in the history of science have we been able to say what the future will be 100 years from now.”

Chu and his buddy Barry Obeyme could not even forecast the mid term elections 2 years ago!!

  4. Paul H says:

“A charlatan (also called swindler or mountebank) is a person practicing quackery or some similar confidence trick in order to obtain money, fame or other advantages via some form of pretense or deception.”

    Chu on that!!

  5. suyts says:

Well, if its going to get that hot, shouldn’t we build some power plants to facilitate the ACs?

    • Mike Davis says:

With the current state of technology the options are Nuclear, Natural gas, and Coal in terms of environmentally friendly energy production.

      • suyts says:

Yep, they’ve been trying to build a coal plant in western Kansas for several years now. Sadly, a couple of greenies got elected and blocked the construction. Worse, now that they are finally out of the way, along comes the new EPA enforcement of CO2 emissions.

Bah, cheap and reliable electricity. Who needs it. Well, other than the elderly on fixed incomes, be even then only a few die every summer because they can’t afford to eat and cool at the same time. Not near as bad as when winter comes around. Especially now, given that the greenies have driven up the cost of natural gas and propane. Cold kills much more efficiently than heat.

  6. R. de Haan says:

Chu of course still is an AGW believer desperately in search of alternative fuels.

And he didn’t even mention methane clathrates boiling the Arctic unless of course he confused methane with carbon dioxide.

  8. Mike says:

As I recall the Robot was usually correct.

The Missouri summer trend since 1895 is flat. The Annual trend is up slightly.

    Summer (Jun-Aug) 1895 – 2010 Trend = 0.00 degF / Decade
    Annual 1895 – 2009 Trend = 0.04 degF / Decade

But no one expects a linear trend under accelerating GHG emissions. The Summer trend since 1990 is up:

    Summer (Jun-Aug) 1990 – 2010 Trend = 0.59 degF / Decade

    Once again, the Robot wins.
