Chris Landsea’s Resignation From The IPCC

Chris Landsea, chief scientist at the National Hurricane Center, resigned from the IPCC in 2005. He objected to the poor science and politics behind the IPCC hurricane claims.

I personally cannot in good faith continue to contribute to a process that I view as both being motivated by pre-conceived agendas and being scientifically unsound. As the IPCC leadership has seen no wrong in Dr. Trenberth’s actions and have retained him as a Lead Author for the AR4, I have decided to no longer participate in the IPCC AR4.

It is beyond me why my colleagues would utilize the media to push an unsupported agenda that recent hurricane activity has been due to global warming. Given Dr. Trenberth’s role as the IPCC’s Lead Author responsible for preparing the text on hurricanes, his public statements so far outside of current scientific understanding led me to concern that it would be very difficult for the IPCC process to proceed objectively with regards to the assessment on hurricane activity. My view is that when people identify themselves as being associated with the IPCC and then make pronouncements far outside current scientific understandings that this will harm the credibility of climate change science and will in the longer term diminish our role in public policy.

    Shouldn’t the title of this thread be;
No Disgruntled People Resign for IPCC since 2005?

  2. sunsettommy says:

The comments in that link are interesting.

Chris L. has since then been vindicated by events since January 2005.

    Will those commentators admit it?

    • Mike Davis says:

Those commentators have no clue. The last sentence is being realized by more and more people and I quote to highlight the money statement:
“My view is that when people identify themselves as being associated with the IPCC and then make pronouncements far outside current scientific understandings that this will harm the credibility of climate change science and will in the longer term diminish our role in public policy.”

  3. Philip Finck says:

A listing of other scientists who have resigned from the IPCC would be very useful.

  4. PJB says:

How anyone can read the climategate e-mails and not be left with the realization that these guys are as crooked as a dog’s hind leg…..

Those few that stand up for ethics and scientific detachment will be remembered, hopefully those that instigated this travesty will be castigated.

Philip Finck, another list of scientists that you may find well respected can be found on the U.S. Senate Minority Report for their Environmental and Public Works Comm.
http://www.epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Minority.Blogs&ContentRecord_id=10fe77b0-802a-23ad-4df1-fc38ed4f85e3. This list contains the names and positions held for over 700 top scientists. Also Dr. Art Robinson’s Petition Project has names of over 34,000 scientists, including 9,000 with PhDs who do not subscribe to AGW. Even these numbers mean little in any science field of endeavor. Remember Copernicus, Galileo, and Einstein. The latter is quoted as saying it only takes one to prove me wrong.
If you have not taken a position on the AGW hoax, then you have not been pouring over the internet like many of us have been doing for years. There is no correlation between CO2 and temperature other than temperature leads CO2 by some 250-1000 years…..and that falsifies the CO2 is forcing on temperature hypothesis. End of debate.
