Class – here is what you need to know about climate models for your final exam next week.
- They can’t model future solar activity
- They can’t model future ocean cycles (ENSO/PDO/AMO etc.)
- They can’t model clouds
- They can’t model sea surface temperatures
- They can’t model volcanoes
- They can’t model pollution
- They can’t model soot from fires
- They can’t model changes to the Earth’s and Sun’s magnetic fields
- They can’t model polar ice
But models can tell you what the temperature will be in 100 years within a tenth of a degree, and they can give you an accurate skiing forecast for the year 2090.
That is all you need to know.
And astronomers just invent 80% of the mass of the universe. Fluid scientists can’t model jet engines turbulence accurately. In fact just about every science has more unanswered questions than certainty. And DON’T get me started on evolution. Those biologists know about 1/10 of what climate scientists know in their field.
jesus tony. that’s two posts in one night.
are you coming over to our side?
But astronomers don’t expect us to fork out billions of pounds every year .
and if the vast majority of astronomers “discovered” some phenomenon that needed to fork out billions of pounds every year, it is good to know that you would already have ammunition against them.
And when jet engines don’t work correctly, Rolls Royce and its shareholders foot the bill. Not me.
but they can’t POSSIBLY work correctly, because they don’t understand the complicated factors that are involved in chaotic systems and turbulence.
they can’t tell you where a molecule of air ends a second after going through the engine , but they can tell you where the plane will arrive hours later??? That is crazy!
Climate models are based on deterministic (iterative) feedback. Your analogy is absurd.
Can you tell me the climate of the Sahara based on information gathered in Antarctica?
Wait. You mean to tell me jet engines really DO work?
Damn, I just checked google.
you are right.
The reference to dark matter is pertinent, since it has an obvious similarity to anthropogenic global warming. (Just ask the UK Met.)
Pwned! Nice post.

Can they at least model clothes??
Steve
Is this true of all of the IPCC source models or do some of them model some of these?
They model some of them, just not accurately – by their own admission.
