Hansen : “all hell is going to break loose”

Will oceans surge 59 centimetres this century – or 25 metres?

When Al Gore predicted that climate change could lead to a 20-foot rise in sea levels, critics called him alarmist. After all, the International Panel on Climate Change, which receives input from top scientists, estimates surges of only 18 to 59 centimetres in the next century.

But a study led by James Hansen, the head of the climate science program at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York and a professor at Columbia University, suggests that current estimates for how high the seas could rise are way off the mark – and that in the next 100 years melting ice could sink cities in the United States to Bangladesh.

“If we follow ‘business-as-usual’ growth of greenhouse gas emissions,” he writes in an e-mail interview, “I think that we will lock in a guaranteed sea-level rise of several metres, which, frankly, means that all hell is going to break loose.”

    Study of…..model predictions?

    “Excellent!”

    Montgomery Burns

  2. It’s worse than we thought!

  3. Glen Shevlin says:

studing model predictions is actually not a bad thing, provided of course that the predictions are labeled as being based on future model predictions, as in not neccisarly overly accurate

  4. Mike Davis says:

With the money Brother Al fleeced from his Sheeple he bought a water front condo in San Fransisco.

  5. S.E.Hendriksen says:

Hmm… Al Gore has upgraded his estimated seawater level rise in his latest book “Our Choise” to 1974 meters

    see http.www.glar.gl/gore.jpg

Cuba is submerged and Panama Intermational waters, Greenland got an in-land fjord.

Don’t underestimate Al Gore…he knows what he’s talking about.

  6. Neil says:

    Good.

Several meters is a measureable amount. Let Hansen be hoisted by his own petard of data.

  7. Tony Duncan says:

Well steve, after much hard work, you almost found one. However there is no time frame for the several meters, and in the only actual quotes or from his writing I have only seen one to two meters by the end of the century.

You know, if it will make it any easier you can just make one up where he says 3-5 meters by the end of this century and I will denounce it!

    • OK Hansen is not responsible for what he says or publishes. What is important is what you want to believe.

What part of Manhattan underwater in 20 years wasn’t clear to you?

      • Mike Davis says:

It is Hansen’s ghost writers that are responsible for Big Jim says. We also have to take into account that Big Jim was an adviser for Brother Al’s AIT fantasy flick!

      • Lazarus says:

        Steve says;

“OK Hansen is not responsible for what he says or publishes. What is important is what you want to believe.

What part of Manhattan underwater in 20 years wasn’t clear to you?”

Except that Hansen never published that and you only have someone flogging their book, but didn’t mention it for 2 decades, who claims that he even said it.

Some logically consistency would be appreciated.

  8. Sami says:

Someone should tell Jimbo to try the following experiment:

    1) Fill a glass with ice
    2) Fill the same glass with water, until it reaches the top.
    3) Wait until the ice melts.

    What happens? 🙂
