But some of them claim that the warming of Greenland was local, and that almost all of the rest of the world was colder than now.
But, of course, if that was true then that is the weirdest case of global weirding ever because that warming there lasted ~350 years—-one little location much warmer than now and the rest of the world colder than now? Ya,right.
The Vikings should have consulted Briffa’s tree before moving to Greenland.
All present and future warming is global, all present and future cooling is local. Instead, all past warming was local, and all past cooling was global.
See? It kinda of make sense (NOT!).
I does make sense. It’s like that Trenberth heat, we just can’t see it.
Trenberth is pretty smart. He has apparently discovered some process that defies established physics because he claims that the missing heat has sunk into the oceans somehow-we only have to keep looking to find it. Should be a guarantee of permanent employment in the eternal search.
Just another example of “faith” in the whole CAGW scam. I am looking forward to his paper but am not holding my breath.
Steve do you accept the science in this National Geo article or just the bits you pick out and spun to you own agenda?
After all, if any of you readers take the time to read it as opposed to just believing what you say about it they will see;
“Greenland is warming twice as fast as most of the world. Satellite measurements show that its vast ice sheet, which holds nearly 7 percent of the world’s fresh water, is shrinking by about 50 cubic miles each year. The melting ice accelerates the warming—newly exposed ocean and land absorb sunlight that the ice used to reflect into space. If all of Greenland’s ice melts in the centuries ahead, sea level will rise by 24 feet, inundating coastlines around the planet.”
I never doubt the ability of alarmists to contradict themselves – even in the same sentence.
That article was written before the GRACE mass loss claims were blown out of the water this summer.
That study has been refuted. Surrealclimate, Airhead, Stoat, Inforthemoney (because I cannot do anything else) say so and they are the EX-PERTS. The GRACE results that were origionally used were consistent with the models so the new results must be wrong. GAV said so. The Waskally Wabbit did a regression and used his otherworldly powers of pseudo statistics to independently verify the GAV’s claims.
😉 🙂
I probably got it wrong because I was laughing to hard writing it!
What has the GRACE ice loss claims, which you are seriously over egging, got to do with “Greenland is warming twice as fast as most of the world?
Even taking your own statement as correct the ice sheet is shrinking by about 25 cubic miles each year.
Lazarus:
IF Greenland melting continues!!!!! If ALL of Greenland melts!!!!
How long has the ice sheet covered Greenland? Multiple choice: 100K, 200K 600K longer but unknown to any useful resolution.
That brings up the question of ice age on the Antarctic ice sheet. How many MILLIONS of years has that Continent been frozen? Under NORMAL global warming conditions the high latitudes and high altitudes would be the most affected but that goes the other way while global cooling is happening.
Speaking of Greenland, there are locations where vegetation is now being uncovered that was growing when the Vikings lived there. It was not a regional warm period because there is evidence of warming all around the globe on a regional basis during the same 300 to 500 year time period.
“Proper” Smoothing and selection of proxy material will give you whatever results you desire. You just need to know what results you want before yu start the research. Sort of like the Dedro group whose work was used for the IPCC 3 and 4 reports in 2001 and 2007.
Mike says,
“IF Greenland melting continues!!!!! ”
Did I miss the news stating when it was due to stop?
This is an interesting post from over at WUWT about soot deposits in Greenland accelerating snow and ice melt. Now I am not a snow/ice guy being from the desert southwest, but this looks like something worth looking into and watching. Could be a lot more interesting than man-made CO2.

A viking farm was recently archaelogically examined at a place named “Gården under Sandet”

“Gården under sandet” = The farm under the sand.
Please stop calling the Icelandic settlers “vikings”. “Norse” is ok too.

That ice sheet will stop melting as the next ice age sets in.
