Penguins Going Extinct From “Scant Sea Ice”

And global warming begat climate change. And climate change begat global climate disruption. And Al groped at the masseuse. And Pachauri wrote porn. And Mann hid the decline. And all hid from the dread FOI.

Some creationists believe that world is 6,000 years old. Global warming facts are even somewhat less believable. Check out this new book:

Global warming threatens Antarctica’s penguins, book says

Adelie penguins depend on sea ice for survival. They use it as a platform from which they feed on krill larvae and silverfish eggs, the supply of which has been reduced because of scant sea ice.

Actually, Antarctic sea ice has been steadily increasing for as long as records have been kept.

His book says Antarctica’s midwinter temperature has risen 11°F in the past 60 years.

Actually, GISS shows little or no winter warming over the past sixty years. Certainly nothing close to 11°F.

Summer temperatures (when ice melts) show even less warming :

Just unbelievable. When will this garbage end? What would it take to shame these clowns into not writing fiction like this ?

  2. Mike Davis says:

I guess the extreme loss in sea ice is why the Penguins now have to travel two to three times as far. The continued warming is why it s colder and the young are having trouble making the journey from the nesting grounds to the sea over the diminished extra ice.
I see the problem. It is all the gray in that plot. You have not properly extrapolated the teleconnected temperatures from the thermometer in Big Jim’s Office to show the proper temperature.
You are also using centigrade on the plot where the study uses Fahrenheit and in the world of climatologists 1 to 2 C is equal to 11 Fahrenheit. It was just a simple need to use the latest methods that the experts use.

Wait till one of these babies blows again http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtfqNpPpH8k the penguins will freeze to death again, but that’s what they want? Even colder for penguins lol

  4. suyts says:

lol, says $26 for the book! I guess P.T. was right after all.

  5. Scarlet Pumpernickel says:

Some funny pics on his site, looks like he’s basing it on his one season he was there??

Lots of ice to me, Penguin Optimum was just a few thousand years ago, when it was warmer. When it was colder there is evidence that they abandoned their nests and left the continent.

I hope his book is better than his photography.

  7. omnologos says:

Why not use the battle-hardened GISS/Steig solution…fill up the grey areas with a deep, deep red indicating 11F of temperature increase, and Fen will be shown right!

    • Mike Davis says:

Using properly applied Smoke and Mirrors like Steig et al did will give you any desired results you want. The problem is you have to know the answer before creating the question!

  8. Lazarus says:

    Nisce bit of information Steve.

While Sea ice is expanding over all, it is not expanding every where on that continent and what the book claims seems to reflect the research.

Or does the research for your graph specifically show that sea ice has extended at Palmer Station and Terre Adelie?

    • So they took one tenth of one percent of Antarctica and made a case for the entire continent. Nice.

    • Mike Davis says:

      Lararus:
The president of PORG started studying the Penguins in 1974 and the numbers have decreased. That reminds me of research done of the west coast to determine the loss of fish in certain fishing grounds. That lead to the discovery of the PDO. Natural climate variation affects creature habitat by moving the feeding grounds.
The last thing I read about the Emperor Penguins was they needed to walk more than twice as far from their nests to get to water and that was leading to the reduction in their numbers. They are creatures of habit and return to the same nesting grounds each year and until they adapt to an expanding Ice Sheet by moving their nesting grounds the numbers will continue to decline. It is easier to claim warming is the cause because SOME people expect that to be the cause. LAZARUS!
As for the 1% represented by the west Antarctic peninsula and the sea ice in that region. A bit of knowledge is left out of the equation such as that is outside of the Antarctic Circle and the extent of Geothermal activity in the area. Forming the passage between the Pacific and the Atlantic it is not a region with calm weather at any time. Reading accounts of Whaling ships that traveled from New England to the Pacific provides a history of that passage.

One other item I noticed you claimed that I agree with Sea ice is not expanding every where on that continent. No it is not . Sea Ice can only expand or retreat on the ocean and not on a continent! The other think being confused is the difference between Glacier Outflow and Sea Ice. While both float on the ocean they have different patterns they follow and different sources so they are not the same.
