Romm Forecasting 2 Metres Of Sea Level Rise

the latest science says we are facing 3 to 6 feet of sea level rise this century.

Over the last five years, sea level is rising at 2 mm/year according to University of Colorado numbers. That would require 1000 years to reach two metres.

    Steve,
there is an expected increase in the rate within the next 600 years. Although Mike will argue with me, this is an actual prediction from the ACC theory.

    “New research suggests . . ”

How about watching the REAL observations for a bit longer. Especially with the latest on the shifts of the AMO, PDO, and/solar activity.

Even if , for whatever reason, sea level rise increases to 10 mm in just a few years, (which I doubt), there is plenty of time to adapt.

So it wasn’t Romm, he is just reporting it. In fact Romm could quote this post and claim “Goddard Forecasting 2 Metres Of Sea Level Rise” and just be as honest as you are being.

“the latest science says we are facing 3 to 6 feet of sea level rise this century.”

Where is this ‘latest science’? Or are you trying to claim that the research predicts a linear rise at presents rates, which isn’t the latest science at all?

Okay so now the idea is to slavage reputations by AGWers saying that the predictions aren’t predictions and that the guys saying them didn’t say them? You would have us believe that Romm or Hansen or any of these guys reporting stuff to the media for headlines, would not tell us if they disagreed with the content? That is just plain stupid. If they report it to the media with no disclaimer, they are supporting the statement.

I for one am tired of this new angle by TonyD and others that Hansen and Romm just read stuff and didn’t actually believe it or “say it” themselves. If that is true how can you even respect them as scientists at all? To read something they did not support or believe to the media without commenting on their disagreement or making dislaimers? This is what you are down to in defense of these guys? Sheesh.

  5. Tony Duncan says:

    Truthsword.
If the media is misrepresenting what he said, then he definitely SHOULD firmly state that he is ONLY stating that he thinks it is a possibility, NOT that he thinks this is going to happen. And he should also state that this is in no way a scientifically backed statement.
Other climate scientists should do the same, and if Mike is correct that it is impossible, they should say that as well.
I am salvaging Hansen’s reputation by saying a not prediction is not a prediction. And describing it as what it really was.
I don’t question he said it for publicity value, but if he is NOT clear that there is no specific scientific basis to his assertion, then he is wrong, and should be lambasted for it.

  6. PhilJourdan says:

It is that damn inflation! It causes everything to be reduced in value, including the meter and foot! So what is 1 meter today will only be a few centimeters in a century!

That is how Goddard and Romm are measuring increases. not with Y2k meters and feet, but with devalued meters and feet!
