“The glaciers in Alaska that have been frozen for 120,000 years are melting”

Wait. I thought all the glaciers had melted during the MWP when it was exactly WAY degrees warmer than today, and Vikings were fishing for parrotfish in shorts.
“Vikings were fishing for parrotfish in shorts”
What are you smoking? – parrotfish don’t wear shorts
..and please don’t put (sarc) after your non serious posts, it would take the mystery out of life 😉
The entire statement is not logical.
The Glaciers in Alaska Wee formed during a period of glacial advance. Because mountain Glaciers such as those found in Alaska are constantly on the move an accurate age can not be determined as the ice has been being pushed down hill. It is possible to date regions of moraine as a glacier retreats but the moraine would be from the last advance in that area as the movement tends to destroy evidence from older advances. The regions being uncovered now are those where the glacier advanced during the MWP. The glacier may well have formed after the prior interglacial period ended but if there is ice from that time I would expect the glacier was hundreds of thousands of years older unless during the prior inter glacial that region was mich warmer that today due to ocean currents amd weather patterns moving warm air from the equator towards the North pole and warming the region which is possible. While there are some glaciers in Alaska others are advancing and one in particular threatens to form a glacial melt water lake. The glacier retreated faster in the 1700s and 1800s than they are today.
As with every ting else you are getting your dates mixed up Tony.
Mike do I have to put (Sarc) after all my non serious posts. It will take a lot of the fun out of it. I certainly give little credence to the ramblings of non scientists who make statements about things like the age of glaciers, when they don’t have a clue what they are talking about.
I hope your source for faster glacial retreat in the 200 year period you note is better than Easterbrook’s global temp changes. And you say some in Alaska are retreating and some expanding. Sounds like about 50-50 or is there a better ratio to consider?
TonyD:
The person you were attempting to make fun of got their alarmist attitude and information from the CLB of which you seem to be a member in good standing because you admit you are a firm believer in the Hazards associated with catastrophic ACC.
I would have to find my sources as I just had to replace my lap top due to a bad video card and as I had no real important information on the computer I just started all over from scratch with a new one.
This is a good source for information:

I also read a bit of research papers regarding glaciers over the last few years as this has been sort of a hobby since I retired the end of 2005 beginning of 2006.
But actually started when I was looking for a region to retire in as climate was a major factor in my choice of life styles. I started planning my retirement in 1990 and half my vacations were spent looking at possible retirement locations.
