Prediction From “world’s leading climate scientists “

The journey to find food in the Arctic will only get worse for Alaska’s polar bears if global temperatures continue rising – as the world’s leading climate scientists predict they will. With summer sea ice-pack projected to decline more severely in coming years, polar bears will have even more trouble hunting for seals and feeding their cubs. It’s unlikely that the bears will find an alternate food supply on land, scientists. This is why the bears were listed as a federal threatened species several years ago.

  1. Andy Weiss says:

These people never bother to look out the window to see what the weather is really doing. That apparently is not part of the peer review process.

  2. Philip Finck says:

Atlantic Canada and /or the Maritime provinces are an excellent area to study the question of seals vs ice vs polar bears.

Ice in the Gulf of St. Laurence, around Newfoundland and Cape Breton has been greatly reduced the last couple of years. Readers can interpret that anyway they wish….. it is not the point of this post.

The question is, “What is the behaviour (Can. spelling) of the seals during whelping season if that is the correct term. It is quite obvious, simple, and not unexpected. In fact, anyone who has lived along the coast in these areas could answer the question. I expect a grade two student, once you explained the question properly, could answer it.

Unfortunately, a NASA scientists is incapable of answering it ……… reminds me of the show, “Are you smarter than a fifth grader”?

An even better place to search for the answer is to look at Sable Island located several hundred kilometres south of Nova Scotia and much closer to the Gulf Stream. Here seal populations have exploded, wiping out commercial fishing around the island. There is no ice there for them to have their pups. They pup on the sandy shore of the island.

This is exactly what has happened in the Gulf of St. Laurence. The seals are on the islands and beaches, happy as a bug in a rug.

So what does this mean for the Arctic and Sub-arctic? If for the sake of argument, all the end of the world predictions come true. Seals will be all over the shorelines, polar bears will be feasting, and we will have to deal with conflicts between the massive increases in polar bear numbers and their interaction with humans in the north. In fact, that is exactly what is happening in some communities right now. The large population of polar bears (what, they aren’t all starved to death?) is causing human/bear problems.

The real question is, “Why aren’t biologists and marine mammal specialists calling people like Hansen out on the carpet for spreading such utter BS?”

because as long as they are dying/threatened/endangered..

This is all money driven science in it’s worst

  3. Jeff K says:

I truly feel for the polar bears-they should be put on a high fat, low brain diet, the “Hansen diet” for starters.

  4. Has a psychological evaluation been done on James Hansen yet?

  5. Jimbo says:

How did the bears survive the past ice free Arctic? See hereherehere.

  6. BioBob says:

Polar Bears ? they became griz and then back again – they all interbreed allatime in the wild.
