Could Global Warming Threaten the Packers Edge?
Rising Temperatures Could Lessen Home Field Advantage Over Warm Weather Rivals

Green Bay, WI—As Wisconsinites gear up for next season, Wisconsin Environment today highlighted how global warming could affect the future success of the Packers.  Specifically, the group pointed to the threat of rising winter temperatures lessening the cold weather that has historically given the Packers an edge over warm weather rivals.

While numerous studies have documented the many serious ways in which global warming could harm Wisconsin’s environment, economy and quality of life, from more severe heat waves to the spread of infectious diseases, today’s event was intended to show how even the game of football could be altered.

“As if we needed another reason to tackle global warming, now even the Green Bay Packers could be affected,” said LuCinda Hohmann, Field Organizer with Wisconsin Environment.  “Congress and the state legislature must get serious about global warming before rising temperatures fumble away the Packers home field advantage.”

I think she was actually serious too.

The last time the Pack had a home playoff game it was freezing. Yet and still they lost to the Giants.

Funny how the Enviros claim to love the cold. I think that the average Joe in Wisconsin wouldn’t mind a little warmer weather even though there is no evidence that any warmer weather is forthcoming.

A degree or two of extra heat for Wisconsin would be catastrophic!

The whole course of Western Civilization might have changed if the 1967 Ice Bowl was played in minus 15F temps rather than at minus 17!

One of my earliest memories as a football fan. While I’m a ‘boys fan, that game…….. that game, what a beautiful melancholy. Both teams exemplified what I consider necessary characteristics of football. It was in my estimation, football’s finest moment. I wonder if it would even be played today.

      • Peer review says that there was no global cooling back then. That game never happened. Bart, Don and Vince may in fact have never existed.

      • suyts says:

Man, those were football players back then! And coaches! And now,……….. a sad, sick, pale reflection of a game that once exemplified American exceptionalism through all the characteristics we’d want our children endowed.

They actually used to play games in real blizzards!

They did not look threatened this weekend!

    • Atlanta has a soft defense. The payoffs always brings out a teams weakness.

The week before the Pack struggled with Philly. Next is Chicago which has a fairly tough defense. If they win it will be eeked out. But they will not beat Pittsburg or the Jets. Both teams have tough defenses. Aaron Rogers has historically done bad against a physical defense. He’s noty good with pressure. Hence, he’s not a come-back type player. Every game in which they trailed going into the 4th quarter this year they lost. Rogers is no Brett Favre. But he gets the big stats so people think he’s a great player.

I was being saracastic – but since you raised the issue…..

I do like the AFC teams over the NFC (not a fan of any of them, but just from a power standpoint). But I will not bet any money on any of them as it really is a toss up. Aaron Rogers is an OK QB, but not a great one. I think of the remaining QBs, Ben is the only “great” one (not really great, just soso great). The rest of the teams got there because of the TEAMS (so did Pittsburg, but Roethlisberger is the 2 minute guy).

The PLAYER I like the best is Charles Woodson and so will probably be pulling for GB so he can get a ring. Other than that, I am just looking for some fun games this weekend (in the snow would be best) and then see who pops out for the SB in 3 weeks.

      • Since Bill Cower and Ken Whisenhunt are not at Pittsburgh they have no running game and the offense is all about Ben Roethlisberger. They used to have that running game where any running back they put in would get 90 to 130 yards. It was impressive to see those holes opened by the line. I think that if the Patriots hadn’t cheated for those 7 years and knocked the Steelers out of the playoffs the Steelers would have won those three Super Bowls instead of New England. I think Bill Cower is the second best coach ever, after Vince Lombardi.

But now, it’s all about Ben Roethlisberger and that fantastic defense. Dick LeBeau has been around so long he’s seen it all. His defense is fun to watch, especially Troy Polamalu!

I’m with you, I’m hoping both games will be fun to watch. I think Steelers vs. Jets is going to be a classic.

Re: Patriots Cheating – Damn Straight! The reason I like the Jets is because they beat the cheaters (each year, my second favorite team changes – who ever beats the Pats in the playoffs!).

As for the games, I think the Chicago/GB one (it will be in Chicago – outside!) will be an old fashion slug fest, while the Steelers/Jets should have more panache’, but still be brutal!

They will be fun to watch!

      • “each year, my second favorite team changes – who ever beats the Pats in the playoffs!”

        LOL!

I hope they are both fun to watch too.
