Wow we really have had a climate regime shift haven’t we? I mean, it’s winter in the north, but the ice is melting. Its summer down here in the south but the ice is growing.
The ice is actually growing in the North this winter. Just not as much as “normal”. The sea ice in the Arctic has doubled from September to January, as is NORMAL.
It is currently summer in the Antarctica, and the sea ice is shrinking, just not as much as normal (except in one bay).
However, while half of the Arctic Sea Ice melts every year.
3/4 of the Antarctic Sea Ice typically melts every year.
The reason the extent of the Antarctic sea ice is increasing is that the rate of calving from Antarctic glaciers is also increasing and is also due to increased snowfall in the Antarctic interior, both affects of global warming. Increased snowfall is caused by increased evaporation from the ocean around Antarctica, also caused by warming. The additional weight of snow increases glacier flow, leading, in turn, to increased glacier calving.
Most of the ice is young, thin and effectively slush.

I’ve added Sean’s post into my statistical analysis of the relationship between Actual Scientific Knowledge and Belief in Global Warming, and the new co-efficient of correlation works out to be -0.976.
The whole “cause-effect” thing is proving somewhat tricky, though….
Does ignorance of actual science cause belief in global warming, or does belief in global warming cause ignorance of actual science?
It will take many years of further study, and millions of dollars in research grants before this “wicked problem” can be fully resolved……
Yeah, but the North Pole is closer to Joe, so it’s more important.

When will they figure this out and blame CO2?
Sorry! I must respond ‘huuuuh?!’ to that. Seriously! CO2?

You haven’t looked at the Antarctic ice coverage recently then?

You forgot the part about satellite temperatures showing Antarctica cooling.
Who you gonna believe, Steig and his temperature smearing code, or satelites?
I can almost smell all that rotten ice from here.
@ Sean…….lol! So, more ice extent is caused by warming in the antarctic. Less ice extent in the arctic, is a sign of warming………k, got it.
Now, you want to talk about science? Or the Herodian Dynasty?
Do you flakes see your circular arguments falling apart? Or are you so set in your delusional views you can’t see the lack of logic in the claims?
Sean? Hello? Come on, let’s talk sciency stuff!

Actually, it is all that excessive CO2 built up in the atmosphere affecting their thinking – See the fox story: http://stevengoddard.wordpress.com/2011/05/17/foxes-on-the-sidewalk/
