Satellite is probably most reliable. CRU is land readings and is also infamous for ClimateGate. If they don’t show 2010 as hottest year ever then the American government sets, NOAA and GISS, are alone showing 2010 hottest year ever. UAH and RSS, i.e. satellite, do not show 2010 hottest year ever. The media needs to make people aware that only the American government ‘data’ sets show 2010 as hottest hear ever.
I am a nobody PhD, but i wouldn’t publish one word of a study drawn from so poorly collected and maintained data set mostly collected to facilitate local weather reporting and never designed for climate analysis.
Further, it has been well demonstrated that for all purposes virtually all of the data available today has been “adjusted” usually in an undocumented manner.
Here’s some of James Hansens, (an employee of the American government and infamous for his 1988 testimony to Congress) work. See what happens when he “adjusts” data:
I understand FOIA requests pertaining to Hansen have been submitted. Curiosity led me to compare the slope of GISS data to HadCRUT3V after an online chat elsewhere had someone saying that Hansen’s temp record mirrored others. Not so much as it turns out.
Steven,
Do you consider the hadcrut to be the most reliable data available?
Certainly better than GISS.
Don’t know about Steve but I reckon it’s the LEAST UNRELIABLE of the lot.

Global temperature was colder in December 2010 than it was in February 1973!

His error bar is two orders of magnitude larger than his claimed record. He is either completely incompetent or dishonest or both.
BOTH!!!
