The decapitated bodies of 14 young men were left outside a shopping centre in the beach resort of Acapulco, Mexico, during a weekend of slayings blamed on rival drug gangs.

The headless corpses were discovered by police in the early hours of Saturday with the severed heads placed nearby. A 15th intact body was also found at the scene. All were men aged between 15 and 30 years old.

The decapitations were the latest in a wave of violence to hit the popular Mexican holiday resort where drug gangs are fighting a bitter turf war.

Handwritten messages left at the scene of the beheadings were signed: “El Chapo’s people”, a reference to the Sinaloa cartel headed by Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán.

Police said the notes indicated that the Sinaloa cartel had killed members of a rival gang for intruding on their turf and attempting to extort residents.

A further 17 people were killed in the region overnight on Friday, including two policemen shot dead as they patrolled a popular beachside area.

Police also discovered the bodies of six people shot dead and piled in a taxi with their hands and feet bound in another part of Acapulco, where the escalating bloodshed is scaring holidaymakers away.

Beheading is a common execution method among warring drug organisations. In 2008, nine decapitated men were dumped in Chilpancingo, the state capital of the Guerrero region and later that year a group of 12 headless bodies were discovered in Merida, the capital of Yucatan state.

At least 30,000 people have died in drug related violence since President Felipe Calderón launched an offensive against the cartels four years ago.

Last week five bodies were found in the northern state of Chihuahua. They included a woman who had been tortured and her decapitated head stuffed into a plastic bag and left beside her body.

Yes but what do they think of global warming? Is it a scam?
These people oughta get their priorities right. Don’t they know there is a global emergency going on? How will they shoot and decapitate each other if temperaturs rise by another 2DegC?

Going about their day to day troubles, spewing out all that CO2 without regard for the rest of the planets inhabitants is selfish to the extreme. Think of your great great grandchildren. Speak to James, he’ll set your priorities straight.

    Arizona is teleconnected to Aculpoco?

    • If you look carefully on the map, you might notice that Arizona shares a border with Mexico. This is tricky though for people of some political persuasions.

      • mt says:

Aculpoco is 1300+ miles away from Arizona. At least find an article about Juarez if you want to want to infer drug violence had something to do with this.

      • truthsword says:

Apparently the border/drug wars spreading from Mexico to our border states only have to do with Juarez now? Heh. That’s like saying tensions in Washington have nothing to do with Isreal or Iraq or North Korea or wherver because it’s too far away? Heh.
