She’s quite happy the lunatic could easily get a gun but mad because she didn’t have a gun as well? That’s the sort of warped thinking that has led to something similar in Arizona recently.
The 2nd amendment if not even well written, it has the punctuation and grammar similar to an 8 year old would write. Purely as a sentence it’s a load of crap.
Andy, the wrote and spoke a bit differently then. But if you’ve any consternation about the meaning of the amendment, we should have a chat with some of the people that were around then. Shall we?
Americans have the right and advantage of being armed – unlike the citizens of other countries whose governments are afraid to trust the people with arms. – James Madison
The Constitution shall never be construed … to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms. – Samuel Adams
The best we can hope for concerning the people at large is that they be properly armed. – Alexander Hamilton
Directly responding to your inference! When the resolution of enslaving America was formed in Great Britain, the British Parliament was advised by an artful man, who was governor of Pennsylvania, to disarm the people; that it was the best and most effectual way to enslave them; but that they should not do it openly, but weaken them, and let them sink gradually…I ask, who are the militia? They consist of now of the whole people, except a few public officers. But I cannot say who will be the militia of the future day. If that paper on the table gets no alteration, the militia of the future day may not consist of all classes, high and low, and rich and poor… – George Mason, Virginia Constitution Convention
A strong body makes a strong mind. As to the species of exercise I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Let your gun, therefore, be the constant companion of your walks. – Thomas Jefferson
To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them. – Richard Henry Lee 1788
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms… disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes… Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. – Thomas Jefferson’s “Commonplace Book,” 1774-1776, quoting from On Crimes and Punishment, by criminologist Cesare Beccaria, 1764
Are we at last brought to such humiliating and debasing degradation that we cannot be trusted with arms for our defense? Where is the difference between having our arms in possession and under our direction, and having them under the management of Congress? If our defense be the real object of having those arms, in whose hands can they be trusted with more propriety, or equal safety to us, as in our own hands? – Patrick Henry
…arms…discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property. …Horrid mischief would ensue were (the law-abiding) deprived the use of them. — Thomas Paine
“The constitutions of most of our States assert that all power is inherent in the people; that… it is their right and duty to be at all times armed.” –Thomas Jefferson
We should not forget that the spark which ignited the American Revolution was caused by the British attempt to confiscate the firearms of the colonists. – Patrick Henry
I think it is fairly clear what our founding fathers meant when they wrote the 2nd amendment. I’ve more, if you wish.
Andy, would you like some detergent to cut down on all that foam ?
One person with a concealed carry permit or not could have ended that AZ incident with a lot fewer casualties and saved millions in court costs. Too bad.
A 100% armed populace would be a POLITE populace and just consider the evolutionary implications !!
A 100% armed populous would not be a polite populous, you’d just have a lot more dead populous. Even quoting 100% is stupid.
One person could have stopped the AZ incident, but you would still more than likely have more dead than if nobody had guns. Compare to an incident in the UK
if she had a Glock instead of a kitchen knife then no doubt she would have done a lot more damage. Because she couldn’t easily get a gun in the UK she was affectively restricted before she even started.
Three of the weakest arguments pro guns are
a) If someone else had a gun it would not have been as bad.
b) Cars kill more people
c) Ok so you don’t like guns, so what happens if you are in house and someone is about to kill you family, you are screwed …..
Here, in my own home state of Kansas. Where the wild west of lore was made famous. A little over a century ago, the population in this area was almost 100% armed. Cattle towns flourished. Abilene, Wichita and even the famous Dodge City!
“Guns are deeply rooted within Swiss culture – but the gun crime rate is so low that statistics are not even kept.” http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/1566715.stm
But this does not explain why Switzerland, so often thought of as a peaceful country, should have so many family killings.
It’s very common to hear women tell how their husbands remind them they have a gun in moments of tension
Professor Brigitte Schnegg, Berne University
A recent study indicated that 58% of all murders in Switzerland were within the family. In the Netherlands, also a peaceful, prosperous Western European country, the figure is 29%.
Mr Boess blames the Swiss army’s policy of requiring Swiss men, who all have to do military service, to keep their guns and ammunition at home in case of an emergency call-up. ”
” It’s very common to hear women tell how their husbands remind them they have a gun in moments of tension
these same arguments you are bringing up are the same arguments always brought up at these times. It is profound that some people, apparently you included, fight gun ownership. Maybe you think, like some others, that the Founding Fathers were lesser men and didn’t understand the real world, or that they lived in an antiquated time. But what is instead true is they learned from hard experience that gun ownership by the people is the only way to be protected from the ill intentioned among us.
If ownership of guns by good people is illegal the only people who would have guns would be the bad people. It’s sad that the world is that way, but it is.
If I had to listen to a bird chirping the hours away I would be more Whacko than I already am!
The wife and I are both within 1 second of a weapon in hand most of the time!
If you really want to see what the gun does don’t concentrate on Switzerland which is a very rich country and everyone does national service.
Look at Finland which has a terrible record (due to the long, long dark winters) yet it is a stable democracy.
Also if you were to legalise genocide based on the fact that it was not illegal in Switzerland between 1933 to 1945 and didn’t happen there you’d be missing what was going on across the boarder 🙁
If you are going to compare the UK to the best case why not compare it also to the worst cases? Ivory Coast (where a friend of mine lived) it went from a western style democracy to complete anarchy in two weeks!!! He said everyone had a gun and when political instability occurred everyone reached for the gun.
An other example is Yugoslavia which was very stable and was a major tourist destination , what would have happened in Bosnia if no one had a gun?
If I walk down the road and someone has a knife I can still be killed but they have to get close, with a gun I can be picked off from a distance 🙁
i don’t understand anti-gun nutters. they prefer to be helpless victims. it is the slave mentality, they abhor any responsibility. they therefore assume no one else can be responsible either. oh, except those with authority: they are by definition altruistic angels selflessly devoted to your welfare. and they are always right behind you to protect you. ya right.
here you go, arms quotes for lefties:
“Among the many misdeeds of British rule in India, history will look upon the Act depriving a whole nation of arms as the blackest.” – Mohandas Gandhi
“If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun.”- The Dalai Lama

Sort of a warped comment.

The reason they wrote differently was that they had little to no grammar and spelling rules.

What was your point in BBC story?

If I had to listen to a bird chirping the hours away I would be more Whacko than I already am!
The wife and I are both within 1 second of a weapon in hand most of the time!
my last response to the deranged – come visit me in montana – please !
murder rates per capita:
switzerland 0.96 – 1.19 [100% armed]
united kingdom 1.70 – 2.06 [100% disarmed]
You are full of doodoo, foamy !
If this is the same video, the best part is when she tells Schumer that we don’t have guns to protect us from other citizens.
We have them to protect us from our own government. 🙂
That is precisely why.
I’ve never been a gun fanatic. But a pacifist society is an easy target for evildoers. I’d rather be armed to the teeth.
Let’s see, how many millions did Stalin kill? 15-20 Million?

Just another point have you ever heard of a drive by stabbing?
If I’m in a car it is had for someone to stab me, with a gun no problem (as mythbusters proved).
What a pile !
You never played demolition derby, bumper cars or chicken ? Others do – it’s a national sport, apparently.
