“The river is modeled after the Rhine, where ice tends to form in crags as pictured, not in broad sheets with penguins as is more common on the Delaware. (However, it is speculated that the Delaware River really was frozen over as depicted because of the Little Ice Age that was occurring at the time, although Mann et al 2002 disputes this claim.) Also, the Delaware at what is now called Washington Crossing is far narrower than the river depicted in the painting. It was also raining during the crossing, which was a result of the dread warmcold observed at the time”

its a pumped storage reservoir lol – they use them to shift peak power generation to a time when its needed from a time when it is not needed, so that base electricity production is not wasted.

It was snowing, not raining! Rain is a modern product of global warming and never used to happen during those good old days!
