Professor Slingo, who is in charge of Britain’s biggest research team investigating climate change, insisted that global warming was a reality despite the bitterly cold temperatures and heavy snowfalls that have brought much of the country to a standstill.
“This is not a global event; it is very much confined to the UK and Western Europe and if you look over at Greenland, for example, you see that it’s exceptionally warm there,”

Cancun suffered its coldest temperature ever recorded in December, but apparently none of the 15,000 climate experts in attendance were educated enough to pick up on the fact that Cancun is not in Western Europe.

Coastal states often show little or no warming because of the mediating effects of the ocean. To put this into proper context you should look at different locations and different times of the year.
