Mr Pielke is conveniently forgetting that since 1979, the Wivenhoe dam protects Brisbane. That is now above capacity, but without it the floods would surely have been much worse.
That said, I don’t know of any evidence that the current flooding is due to (or aggravated by) climate change. Australia’s climate always was unpredictable.
“The dam is overflowing and they are having to reduce water levels – which actually increases the flow downstream.”
Quite. There is no evidence suggesting that Wivenhoe would have circumvented the floods of 1974, 1893, etc, much like sometimes having airbags in a car might still not save the lives of crash victims
Governments of Australia and other countries should recognize there is global cooling, so they can prepare for more rains, more flood, more snow. Instead of waiting for more drought and higher ocean level, http://funwithgovernment.blogspot.com/2011/01/australia-floods.html

Do you think a full reservoir somehow reduces the flow of water? Maybe the dam is storing the missing heat.
It may be very full and they had to let through a substantial body of water over the past days and weeks, but it still allows for some mitigation.
And I don’t know why you think heat has anything to do with it.
Just a joke.

Its preemptive. When the floods hit Pakistan, many people jumped up and down screaming climate change, including our Secretary of State.
“the Wivenhoe dam protects Brisbane”
Um.. yeah.. it sure did. Feel free to continue deluding yourself.
