The graph below shows USHCN unadjusted temperatures for Manhattan, Kansas. The mean temperature in July, 1934 averaged an astonishing 90.2 degrees. The average high temperature that month was an unbelievable 106.4 degrees!
Wouldn’t it be nice if the climate experts actually learned something about the climate?
My dad was there! It was HOT!
If you think 1934 was bad, take a long hard look at 1936! Much hotter much further north. 120 degree heat in North Dakota!
How Hot Was July, 1934? Should that have read “How hot was Manhattan in 1934?”
Oops, I forgot Manhattan IS the world! Silly me. Surprise, in comes North Dakota 2 years later, hot too. Now I get it, Manhattan plus North Dakota IS the world. The world IS North America, lest we forget. Good grief, talk about confusing weather and climate.
`Wouldn’t it be nice if the climate experts actually learned something about the climate?`

Wouldn´t it be niecer if some comments understood the difference between weather and climate. Between local and regional. Between the afore mentioned and global
You’re right! This is only one example of extreme weather events that occurred before CO2 went above some magical limit. We’d have to have many more examples before there could be any significance to such articles. See the archives for many more examples. Steven has shown, and continues to show, that extreme climatic events and weather occurrences occurred with an significant frequency before all of the hubbub about CO2. I hope he continues to do so on the daily basis he has been doing. If one is going to blame floods and droughts on CO2 and CC, then one has find a reason for all of these events that Steven is posting about.
Did I go too fast? Alarmists seem to have a difficulty connecting dots. I’ll break it down in more detail if you require further explanation.
I think his name Baffled24 about explains it.
Man made C02 does Not cause Anthropogenic Global warming, It does not effect the climate or the weather so whats your point?
All CO2 affects the climate. Any gas in the atmosphere will affect the climate. That’s how we get climate, and why our average temps are much warmer than they would be without an atmosphere. Earth, Mars, and Venus prove greenhouse effects are real and exist. Venus for example is MUCH hotter than Mercury because it has a very thick atmosphere.
Change the content of the atmosphere, and you change climate. So, since man is changing the content of the atmosphere, we are changing climate.
What isn’t known yet is how much we are changing it and how quickly. However, at this time, the average temps are getting warmer around the globe, and there is currently no known natural mechanism that can explain the current warming trend.
Global temps have been flat for 15 years and there are hundreds of things which affect the climate. Are you suggesting that humans caused temperatures to rise 12 degrees out of the last ice age?
Do you have anything intelligent to add to the discussion? Pleas explain what caused July 1936 to be the hottest month on record in the US.
Global temperatures have been rising over the last 12 years:
http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs_v3/
Also, I did not say humans caused 12 degrees (what measurement are you talking about) of an increase since the last ice age. I’m saying they likely caused the current warming that we are seeing in addition to natural cycles. The natural cycles take much too long to account for the rapid changes we see today.
As far as July 1936 goes, you don’t look at extreme outliers to establish a trend. A trend is established over time. Also, the US is a very small part of the entire world, and CO2 levels weren’t as high then as they are today.
Yes there are natural cycles, but that doesn’t mean manmade changes can’t happen.
I’m being polite as I can and I am responding with intelligent and well-thought out responses. Please remain civil. Thank you.
Temperatures were much hotter during the 1930s. Your education begins now

http://www.epa.gov/climate/climatechange/pdfs/print_heat-waves.pdf
That is for the US, not for global temperatures. Global temperatures are as high as they’ve been since the 1880s, at least.
Why can’t you understand that both man and nature can affect climate? We change the content of the atmosphere. Therefore, we’re changing climate.
Perhaps the US EPA can convince you
http://www.epa.gov/climate/climatechange/pdfs/print_heat-waves.pdf
That’s for the US only. Did you not read the link you posted? Are you not reading what I type? There is a miscommunication going on here and I’m trying to be as clear as I can be.
Globally, it was not the hottest month on record in the last 100 years. Period.
No, you are trying to shove your religion down everyone`s throat and obviously aren`t interested in what is really going on with the data
http://stevengoddard.wordpress.com/2012/07/11/odds-that-the-temperature-record-has-been-corrupted-by-alarmists-100/
Any gas in the atmosphere will affect the climate.
And if the gas is diathermanous?
Sulfur dioxide oxidizes to the trioxide and combines with water vapor in Venus’s atmosphere to form the clouds there – which is a very, exothermic reaction.
The Martian atmosphere is about 98% CO2, the partial pressure of CO2 is higher there than on the Earth, diurnal temperatures on Mars approach some 250 K of difference, completely consistent with no greenhouse atmosphere at all.
Now what.
Is the Earth currently warming? Signs point to yes. NASA says yes. I’m going to side with NASA on this one:
http://science.nasa.gov/earth-science/big-questions/is-the-global-earth-system-changing-and-what-are-the-consequences/
HadCRUT says that there has been no warming for 15 years
http://www.woodfortrees.org/plot/hadcrut3vgl/from:1997/plot/hadcrut3vgl/from:1997/trend
You’re selecting only the data you want to see. Look at a long term trend and long term statistical average for multiple data sets.
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/research/monitoring/climate/surface-temperature/
Even if your link, there is indeed a warming. You were just selecting any year you could to show a ‘flat’ trend (which really wasn’t flat). Try more data points:
http://www.woodfortrees.org/plot/hadcrut3vgl/from:1990/plot/hadcrut3vgl/from:1990/trend
http://www.woodfortrees.org/plot/hadcrut3vgl/from:1960/plot/hadcrut3vgl/from:1960/trend
http://www.woodfortrees.org/plot/hadcrut3vgl/from:1900/plot/hadcrut3vgl/from:1900/trend
Perhaps you should take a closer look at the data you are blindly accepting
http://stevengoddard.wordpress.com/2012/06/26/phil-jones-coldest-month-ever-based-on-nothing/
I already told you in a deleted post that the coldest month since 1800 was NOT in 1865. If you go back to 1800 in your HadCRUT3 data you’ll see it was in the 1880s. You don’t provide a link to what he says, and google pulls up nothing.
Either you’re making it up or you’re too lazy to cite your sources.
Try CRUTEM3. That is their land data – you silly English pig dog.
It doesn’t look to me as if there is anything we can do about it. So why bother people about it?
I can’t take a closer look at that. You didn’t bother to show your source, and googling his name and ‘coldest month’ doesn’t give me his study. Why didn’t you link to his study in your blog? I can’t tell what data he used, and I’m sure as heck not going to just take your word for it.
By the way, you can use things besides thermometers on land to determine past global temperatures.
This was in response to your ‘Phil Jones’ post. Javascript pushed the reply to somewhere else.
The data is right on the web page you linked to
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/hadobs/crutem3/data/CRUTEM3.nc
That is the HadCRUT temperature database, the same one which you just quoted.
You don’t look at individual points of data. You look at trends and consensus. I looked through the data and have no way of parsing it – but since you can’t point to any source for your original post (why couldn’t you bother with posting a link in the original blog post) I’m not going to take your word for it. Besides, we have plenty of other proxy data to go on.
You can parse the data, because I have posted the source code I wrote. Quit acting like a whiny victim and prove me wrong.
You’re a jerky little nothin with no name. There are 10**7 little global warmers out there with no name
What makes you special
Thank you for such a scientific rebuttal. The person ‘Steven Goddard’ is posting under what he claims is a pseudonym, and even his dishonesty was rejected at WUWT.
Maybe you could be a little more civil?
ROFLMAO. What a douche. Quit whining and prove me wrong.
Maybe you should ask Yourself that but we know the answer to that, It’s funny that Watts post here every now and again isn’t so what dose that say for Yourself! Cheese with that? 😆
I love how my posts were censored. Steven Goddard doesn’t want anyone to know that his posts were fully refuted.
If that is even your real name.
I hear you got ran out on a rail at WattsUpWithThat. That says a lot.
There haven’t been any posts censored. Cut the crap. There is nothing in the spam filter either. You sound like a real asshole.
Sounds like that BAL BAL BAL WhinnySelf douchebag err whatever it wants to call It’s Self, needs to take his bird and go finger it’s self! 😆
I posted many comments that didn’t show up. I refuted just about everything you posted.
Funny how you’ll let personal insults and posts without any science through, but you won’t let any through which show you to be dead wrong.
I do find it interesting that WUWT (a conservative denialist website) even thought you were being too dishonest.
You didn’t post them here. I have only censored about five posts in the last three years and they were due to being obscene or threatening.
Me mistake that should be BAWL BAWL BAWL! And A WHAAAA!
I reposted my rebuttals as best as I can remember.
Care to address the part where you claim a graph shows one thing and in reality you just selected particular data points to side with your claim instead of looking at an honest set of data with enough data points to make a conclusion – or while ignoring the actual consensus about what the data means?
State your point specifically. I have no idea what you are rambling about.
Did your mom refer to you as “Myself”? Or did you give her a headache by constantly referring to yourself that way?
😆 Nice, sounds like that Asshole was asking fer it!
I ask for nothing. I saw dishonesty in this blog and pointed it out. Now either stick to the science or facts, or continue to look childish. At least when people google my name they won’t find childish remarks like yours.
Any facts to post? Any citations?
Cut the crap you whiner. You were looking at the wrong data set.
No. You offered data but no consensus. You don’t know how to interpret the data, and then you want me to accept your interpretation of the data instead of an actual climate scientist who knows what the data means.
That’s dishonest.
Say something specific. You are putting me to sleep.
consensus? BWAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA, is that like the Pal review thinggy?
Hey Youself, how’d that work out fer ya? BWAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA! How do ya like Me now? 😆
Hey youself when can Me, expect to see one of you jackasses to post here as EYE or I soon? BWAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Probably not, now you morons. 😉
But it wouldn’t surprise Me if ya still did! 😆
