December/January was the snowiest first two months of winter on record in the northern hemisphere, but NSIDC’s latest newsletter forgot to mention this fact. Their only mention of snow is below.
While the Arctic has been warm, cold and stormy weather has affected much of the Northeast U.S. and Europe. Last winter also paired an anomalously warm Arctic with cold and snowy weather for the eastern U.S. and northern Europe. Is there a connection?
They also said :
This was the lowest January ice extent recorded since satellite records began in 1979.
Which does not agree with DMI, who showed January ahead of 2006 – the year which had the highest summer minimum in their database.

As for NSIDC’s claim that the Arctic has been “warm” I’m not sure that -25C would be considered that warm by most people.

Record high snow cover is apparently not an interesting topic for NSIDC. I wonder why not?

But remember, it’s from global warming.
How do they get away with such absurdities?
Jimbo:
It is all “Relative”! I asked my cousin the other day and he agreed it is all relative and his being my Aunt’s child means we are related.
We should send the people from NSIDC to the North Pole for a Beach Party next week! We should provide a tropical wardrobe based on their claim of the Arctic being “WARM”!
Set up a big screen at the North Pole for the game, and they will see snow in Dallas.
NSIDC is a government funded advocacy group pushing an agenda. I put it in equal reliability with GISS, NOAA, EPA, DOE, and a bunch of other activist groups that bear the government label. They are promoting imaginary problems to justify their funding and get more funding for make work projects that do nothing more than keep people off the streets.
There is not enough historic data to make any claims about sea ice and their splicing guesses of extent from before satellite is garbage guess work.
The satellite data is combining different qualities of photo quality and different masking algorithms then claiming some validity in their results.
Warmistcoldist mostless when used to describe conditions in the polar regions DMS because it is all WAG!
Why is it such a surprise they are focused on the Arctic, an area where temperatures are above average for this time of the year, but still too cold for people to live in, instead of the mid-latidues where temperatures are well below the average and where lots of people live. It is easy to lie when no one else is observing.
10C below average in the mid latitudes is a difference between life and death for many people. 10C above average in the polar regions during the winter is still colder than any place I would want to be.
The strong decline of the Arctic winter sea-ice extent, as touted by the NSIDC, is largely a consequence of their unrealistic definition of the Arctic

Hmmm,
Last I checked the way a traditional “radiator” works is:
1) circulate fluid into the warm item to be cooled.
2) send the fluid to a place that will warm up and radiate the heat away
3) circulate the now cool/cold fluid back to the warmer parts.
So, with the arctic oscillation hitting “huge” the “radiator” of the cold, black, dark arctic is doing its thing of warming up and sending huge quantities of addition radiation into space.
Someone might want to “explain simple things” to some of these folk.
Nah, they might become dangerous instead of funny.
LOL in Oregon
All these years seem clustered so close together as to have no real statistical difference.
