israel’s actions especially recently have hardly anything to do with self defense, and more with consolidating power over people who have no recourse. israel annexed land that was not a part of it during a war that it started. this has never been accepted by the international community, including the United States. it continues to build settlements in those areas and assert military, and economic control in those areas by fiat. The US subsidizes the israeli military to the tune of billions of dollars, more than is spent on ACC in just the United States.
I have been to Israel and love it, as I love the amazing people there. Yet the racism against Arabs is rampant and totally unhinged, just as the racism against jews in the arab world is. The difference being that Isreal is rich and powerful and can do whatever it wants because the US will not practically oppose any action Israel takes.

In my experience the media almost never covers any positive actions from Hamas, Hezbollah or The Muslim Brotherhood. I know that Hamas and Hezbollah have spent lots of money and resources to rebuild Southern lebanon and the Gaza Strip, and provide free or cheap public services that actually help people in their daily lives (not so much Hamas after their takeover of Gaza). This is a major reason that they have been popular. Certainly their unfailing opposition to Israel and willingness to fight against israel has increased their popularity among peep who have only experienced concession and defeat from their governments opposition to Isreal.
I have been to many Muslim countries and my family lived in Pakistan. The vast majority of muslims have absolutely no interest in doing anything by the sword. Certainly the number of muslims who are willing to resort to violence against the west has increased by orders of magnitude, but I see that more as the result of western actions and corruption in their governments than because of the nature of their religion

The US and Europe have been the dominant political, economic and military forces of the world for the last 5-600 years, and this was the period when the world became integrated. So the effects of our social, political, economic, and military policies have had the biggest impact ever. By the west I of course include the soviet sphere, Asian communism and fascism in the early 20th century. But one cannot just wish away the tens or hundreds millions killed and subjugated in the world due to the effects of modern civilization.
Bu that does not mean that people and cultures are not responsible for their actions, it just helps explain them so it is becomes possible to develop better approaches to solving the consequences all this ridiculous mess the world is in.

I have argued with numerous people like you, and I have a fairly detailed knowledge of islamic and middle eastern history. I am actually interested in looking at ALL the facts, not just those from the likes of Robert Spencer, or Daniel Pipes.
I don’t know if you noticed where most of those 17,000 attacks occurred? Does the word Iraq mean anything to you? Do you know how many islamist attacks there were in Iraq before and after march 2003? Do you know how many attacks by US forces there have been on innocent Muslims in the middle east since October of 2001? Do you think there might be any kind of correlation there?
Do you know how many millions of non christians have been killed and enslaved by the followers of the religion of love?
Do you know how many non christians were forced to convert or die in Europe from the followers of the religions of love? Do you know why there aren’t many pagans left in Europe?
I doubt that most muslims support their violent subset. I imagine that a significant percentage are sympathetic to their arguments.
Do you know how many American christians believe in a literal interpretation of the Bible? Do you know how many believe that the Earth was magically created by God a few thousand years ago? Do you know how many don’t believe in evolutions.
